Suunto Race 3S General Discussion
-
@GiPFELKiND Is your statement a fact ? I Mean is it specified somewhere that HR is not measured continiously ?
-
@GiPFELKiND To be honest. Why would anybody care about their HR during the day? I was always missing an option to disable it or make less frequent. Of course it would be nice to have a choice to change it

Some people have medical conditions or other reasons they want to know, and some just like having βmore dataβ when possible.
Having used Apple Watches that, until the latest models, worked on this model: in non-workout mode HR once every 5m more or less, when not in motion, HRV about once every two hours, I found it fine, and a necessary compromise to maintain battery life. With the new series 12 / Ultra 4 models they now do HR about every 5 sec and HRV every five minutes. So itβs a kind of quirky for Suunto to go in opposite direction.
As for the question of Race 3 / Vertical 3, Iβd expect them to do the same as Race 3S assuming they are all on the same OS and same processors, etc.

Does anyone already have the Race3S and can say someting about the installed firmware version?
-
@VoiGAS like what?
-
@isazi The version number

-
@VoiGAS 2.57.62 (or .64)
-
2.57.62 out of the box and 2.57.64 firmware update immediately after.
-
Curious which other watches will get this version

-
@VoiGAS none

-
@voigas when you got the Race 3s new the App installs the new Firmware. With the new Firmware the heart rate measurenent is only every 5 minutes. When i downgrade to previous original firmware the watch measurenent is continous

You could find first bug

Could You share Race 2 (or Vertical 2) and Race 3S picture of hand and also what Your wrist size please? I was looking for compare of both watches but thereβs no photos so far made by one person. I have 175mm and Race 2 is just fine but sometimes I wish could be just a bit smaller and lighter.
-
I am really surprised and disappointed that the heart rate monitoring is not continuous and users cannot change this setting. I have a medical reason for continuous monitoring. I think I will have to return the watch and go back to the Race S.
-
@laismaniko fully agree
-
That I do not know and I am no expert with technology. However, the much older Suunto Run supports offline music so I would have thought the much newer processor in the Race 2 and Vertical 2 could cope with this being introduced. Unless itβs a firmware issue but then the Race 3S supports offline music on the same firmware platform.

@GiPFELKiND This seems to follow suit with how the Run 2 operates HR recording wise

I understand there may be a need for continuous HR tracking for some people, but, as far as I know, there is no way to view the actual second-by-second recorded HR data? In the app, HR is only viewable in 10 minute intervals for what I assume is an average of the readings across the interval.
To me, it makes sense to dial back daily HR from continuous to some sort of regular interval like 5 minutes if all that data isnβt even available anywhere.
If you do need to view live HR readings, the HR widget will always show this, regardless of settings. Additionally, having HR as a compilation on the watch face seems to provide βliveβ readings, also regardless of any other settings.
Can anyone with a Race 3S with 2.57.64 comment on how the OHR operates with HR as a complication on the watch face?
(Iβm not in the market for the SR3S, just curious about future daily HR options. I tend to turn daily HR off anyway as I see it as a battery drain and dislike seeing the flashing green lights when wearing the watch loose.)

I believe thatβs right. I had hoped there would be a way to see the individual readings like there is in Apple Health where you can see each sample, but thereβs not that ability in Suunto app that I can see.
And setting Suunto to export to Apple Health doesnβt help. While it will send heart rate as a category, during the day it only sends one sample every few hours as I recall. If thereβs a way to export daily HR data to any other platform to see more frequent samples Iβm unaware of it.

I got an offer from Suunto to buy a new watch 20% reduced. Now I am thinking if I should sell the RaceS and Vertical to get a new R3S for about the same money.
I had the V1 because of:- Display
- Battery Life
- Ruggedness
RaceS because of:
- Size
- Weight
- Firmware Support
It seems like the R3S could offer everything without the need to change between watches. What do you think? The most important thing would be the display in AOD mode - is it better?
-
@VoiGAS exactly same case/configuration than you.
SRs3 ordered to replace my SRs that will go to my son.
I keep my SV1 itβs still my favorite for long races, trekking, cyclingβ¦
The day I will replace my SV1 will probably mean I would sold my SRs3
