@GingerBeardMan I’m confused! Why could not I connect the A2 (USB-cable) to my BT-equppied laptop and connect (via BT) to my smartphone SA-app? In that way, at least, the older watches using the USB-cable could be used with the SA-app! I think that making the A1/A2 watches obsolete is horrendous! Amersport (which owns Sunnto is now being bought by a Chinese company, Anta 5.3 billon USD) maybe now has become a victim of political play?

Ambit, Ambit2, M-series, T-series and Quest Collection watches
These Suunto products will not be compatible with Suunto app due to no mobile connectivity (Bluetooth).

Is it not possible to allow connectivity between older devices and the suunto app via Suunto link?
I still have to use Suunto link to upgrade my Suunto 9 so if it is still going to be part of the suunto ecosystem, why not use it as a gateway for older devices?

          Info from Suunto Support (09/2018):
“(…) we assure you that Ambit3 peak will be supported maybe longer than new Suunto watch models since these models are already proven to be reliable and has been one of the best selling watch models from Suunto, just like Suunto Core. There are no plans in changing apps and websites for Ambit family. If there will be significant changes, it could be switching from using Moveslink2 to Suuntolink (which is still being discussed not yet planned) which does not really have any significant effect on the watch.”

So, I have ordered my 2nd Ambit3 Peak… And yesterday I received mail that Movescount will be substituted with mobile app - which will cause, that my Ambit 3 Peak watch will be significantly less functional watch. I need customization, sportsmodes, suunto user apps, route planning + uplod, POIs, etc. At the moment I am very dissapointed customer.

At the end, I hope, suunto will offer a solution for everyone.
For NO BT users, maybe a stand alone software that sync to sport tracker database (aka suuntoapp) and for ambit3 users suunto app will be implement actual function offered by MC.
            I can bet on

@ColdBeer again I am not trying to shut you up. But to be honest take a look further app, you have said this again in different words. I am just asking to give space to other subjects and users, You are well heard.

Pal, so as it’s clear what we’ll lose functionalities with the future death of MC, it’s clear enough, IMHO, that Ambit 1&2 users feel terribly angry. I don’t think suunto needs more comments from them about that point too.

I’ll neither express nor repeat again my arguments. But I really believe it’s clear enough.

Now it’s the moment for suunto decisions. Turn for suunto. I just wish no more bad news, imaginative and innovative solutions, and that the suunto users doesn’t lose more faith on this company. But clear, loud and detailed news.

                  1. all the bad consequences of the decision to scale down web services and effectively discontinue support for older watches were really expected and the possible damage was evaluated well in advance, and
                  2. the only thing you can really do about it right now is vote with your money.

But I guess I just couldn’t hide my disappointment well enough…

In a lawsuit you’ve a very good argument against Suunto.

This movement from Suunto is simply outrageous. I have a great watch and will loos some basic functionality (Ambit 3 Peak and routes/POIs loading). Almost anything has already been said here. I think that the position expressed by Suunto in the mail only shows absolute disregard of their most traditional (and probably valuable) customers, just planned obsolescence and an environmentally unbelievably position. I hope that they will change how support for older watches is solved, in order to maintain the basic features they were designed to have.
BTW, I am starting to think that some international movement to ensure customers full access to the data stored in their electronic equipment should be started. They are OUR data and we should be able to handle it in some open and accesible format.

had the same thought, older watches like ambit2’s was getting FW over the cable and shooting the workoutdata via moveslink over the cable, newer watches (spartans) still use the cable and suuntolink for firmware updates, so if the cable connection works for FW why it’s not ok to have an workaround to get older watches via cable/suuntolink send their workoutdata to the SA, you loose customisation and setting at least you can keep the data in the new app with old devices and don’t brick them

not an expert in protocoll and baselayer, can’t really judge if this is technical feasible…

I’m a new Suunto user. I bought a Spartan Sport WHR in late November and one of the things that swayed my decision was that I’d be able to use the Movescount platform. I’m extremely disappointed to hear, less than two months after buying the watch, that Suunto not only plans to scrap Movescount, it’s going to stop offering any kind of web-based service at all.

Sorry, but this won’t do. I don’t want to be forced to use a phone app as the only access to my data. I certainly wouldn’t have bought the watch if I’d seen this coming and between this development and the company’s clear lack of commitment to continue supporting older watch models (Ambit/Ambit2) when it’s no longer convenient, I’m now highly unlikely to stick with the brand the next time I upgrade.

Formerly Spartan Sport WHR, happy Coros Vertix user since Sept. 2020

@RiphRaph I’d like to reiterate that the only thing that has been confirmed is the stop of Movescount, at the soonest in 1.5 years. The option of “No replacement at all/ replacement only by SA” has not been communicated on by Suunto. And if you look at the number of votes the request for a web access got in this forum, we can certainly think Suunto will take this in consideration, based on the fact the priorities given by this forum to the development of SA have been listened to so far.
I might add, if your need is to access your data via a web platfrom, SA syncs with several services with a web access that will allow you to do that for free. I don’t want to trigger a new series of posts, I’m not saying the free version of TP/Endomondo/Strava has similar features than Movescount web, but it could be a valid alternative to explore your data on a big screen while we have more news from Suunto about a possible “SA-web” platform - that’s now the most voted feature in this forum and by far.

@Yannis-Belouris I am kinda confused. There is that announcement that MC will go off.
What stops you to “fight” for new features especially this time for the new platform, along with the affected users ( I am assuming that perhaps you where not due to your involvement with the forum/Sa app dont get me wrong)

Why I need to “fight” for something that I already have? I do not understand why customers must say Sunnto what to do. I mean, I can ask for new features not ask for the ones that I already have.
In my opinion MC needs a face lift or complete renovation, I can imagine that for whatever reason Suunto have to change servers/databases to another platform. Ok, do it but implement what you have in the new one and then ask for new things to grow.
What’s the point of asking what you want but saying I’m going to remove all this? People are going to ask you to keep what you have, aren’t they?
I do not analyze all my workouts but some of them I do, depending if it’s a race, a new territory or I felt something during the race or ride. When I do this analysis I want to do it properly. Try to find your workout values regarding the map in the phone screen, is not easy for anybody.
Even my simple bike computer has a PC/MAC app for proper workout analysis.

You must have been reading some different announcement, because the one at top of this thread is about the replacement of Movescount with the Suunto App.

Any feedback on the Suunto App would not affect their decision to discontinue the different web-based platform.

You just have to accept the facts. There are no plans to merge Movescount.com features with Sports Tracker web site or enhance Suunto App to offer full feature parity with Movescount.

The decision has been made well before the actual announcement, all web development stopped about one year ago, and new products do not support Movescount anymore.

There is really no point in speculating if or when these plans might be reversed. This just won’t happen.

I accept the fact that movescount.com will be shut down. Nothing more, nothing less! Speculating would be telling that I know the roadmap of Suunto for the next 1.5 years and that I know it doesn’t include a web access for the Sunnto app.

@DmitryKo No one here knows what Suunto is planning but I do know they are listening. Suunto would not put the effort out to listen if their course was set in stone. I remember issues with Ambit 1 when the 2 came out, essentially not adding functionality that was possible. Suunto eventually added it due to customer demand. So I think Ray is speaking honestly. Moveslink will remain and perhaps non BLE watches could download fit files. This will not solve the issue of screen customization, routes, etc but would allow the watches to be useable.
