I am a former Garmin forerunner and fenix user from Hong Kong. The Suunto 9 baro titanium is my first Suunto watch. However I face some problem that is “incredible” for me.

    1. Can the Suunto 9 baro “power off” ? As my previous experience use Garmin forerunner 935, 920xt and Polar watch, the watch can power off when finish the training or exercise to save power. However, I cannot power off the watch even I review the Suunto 9 manual again and again.

    2. Can the Suunto 9 baro lock button or screen lock when in watch mode (not in exercise mode as I know how to lock the screen and button in training) ? I also see nothing mention in the user manual. It is also a problem I never face in Garmin 935, 920xt, Fenix 3…as these model can lock the button to prevent accidentally touch.

I hope Suunto’s engineers or any professional users help me. Thank you very much !

      1. no without complicate procedure dedicated to resellers
      2. no but…it’s necessary? I’ve SSU that’s quite similar to S9 and I don’t suffer the problem of lock lack

        Hi Saketo Nemo,

Sorry for my English is not good. I can’t fully understand your answer for my question 1. The "Power off " function is a “complicate” procedure ? Not only for Garmin or Polar, it think it is also a “fundamental” function for some brand of GPS watch.

For question 2, perhaps you never face this problem, however, many teammates in my running club face my same problem wrongly or accidentally touch the button and change the setting when they wear the watch in their daily life such as work, leisure…

For question 1: NO, you can’t power off the Suunto watches (Not Ambits 3, not Spartans not Suunto 9), but if you do not move them or leave them standing still the screen turns off and they turn on something similar to “sleep mode”.

Question 2: As @Saketo-Nemo I use a Spartan Ultra and I think there is no way of looking the screen if you aren’t in a Sport Mode. My Spartan Ultra is my daily watch and I have never faced any problem for not looking the buttons, if you see the combination of buttons is nearly impossible that you change any setting touching accidentally any button. Anyway I agree with you that this functionality will be very welcomed.

            1. There is also a power save function, you can enable this in the settings menu as far as I recall. But there is now way for a total power off. And like @cosmecosta said, after a while it goes into a sleep mode when not used and stored without moving it.

Hi. Well, for the #2. I have SSSWHR Baro, and I think that for watch screen, there is something like autolock. after certain amount of time (note sure whether seconds or a minute) the touch screen is off (not off like screen goes blank but off like the screens does not act on touch). Also the buttons are off and I need to press any button twice to react. My old SS trainer was behaving exactly like this (except touch scrren - Trainer has no touch screen). So, once I woke -up the watch with double press, then it starts react normally - touch on display or single button press change the screen. After some time of not touching anything, watch screen and buttons became inactive. So I never ever experienced problem with unwanted screen change in normal watch mode. I guess that for SSU and S9 is behaviour the same. I think that you really do not have to be afraid of this.

I measured it. “Autolock” is enabled exactly 1 minute after last touch/button press.
