Dissclaimer, this isn’t in any way a post to praise the Garmin, but for Suunto to fix their issues.
Unfortunately my transition from Garmin to Suunto 9 (normal version without Barometer) has been poorly so far. I came from a brand that had their mobile app and watch doing what they were supposed to do to a brand that feels like was just created 6 months ago and is still in beta version.
Let’s start with why the watch folder doesn’t appear as normally on “My Computer” so that we can easily upload a file on Strava in case one of those updates that completely paralyzes these features happens? Why should I have to download it on my phone from the Suunto app and then either send that file to a laptop or use the mobile version of the Strava site to upload it? It does not make sense.
How about the elevation? Well so far I had to use a lot Strava’s option to correct the elevation because the watch was of by 20% to sometimes 300% (if the activity was a short hill repetition type). Mention: The GPS was set to best tracking mode
How about HR? Well the wrist HR is poor from multiple reasons, the watch is HEAVY, putting it 2 fingers away from the wrist bone doesn’t work for me, it either slides down to the wrist or it just moves with my hand in an uncomfortable dance.
I can get a chest heart strap, yes of course but Suunto had this brilliant idea to not name the Chest straps differently so I either buy it from the brands site or I buy it from a shop in my country (Romania) with the possibility of getting a strap that isn’t compatible with the Suunto 9.
Seriously guys, I came to Suunto because I wanted my watch to do 2 things as supposed, track distance and elevation correctly, if these things don’t happen than this isn’t a GPS watch but just a fitness tracker.

I think distance works very well. at least with me. Each Bluetooth Smart Sensor is compatible with Suunto 9. I always recommend the Polar H10 is not better at the moment. GPS height measurement with the Suunto 9, I can not judge because for me, only the baro comes into question and there it works well.

Hi Kurt, yes distance works well fortunetly, I was reffering to it because I just wanted a simple GPS watch, I ran from Garmin Pay, music apps on watch and other stuff that for me are not the purpose of a running watch.

Well, let me say that if you need to track elevation, rely only on GPS data it’s not the best option due to several GPS limitation.
A Baro one is always suggested in this case. -

A Baro one is always suggested in this case.Yes I do understand that the most accurate one is the Baro version, but here I am seeing problems that aren’t let’s say into a range of error of ±5%. The altimeter that the normal Suunto 9 has doesn’t do it’s job, at least for me with all the updates on time. When compared to my old Forerunner 25 the chance of error in a year maybe was 2 times while I have the Suunto 9 for 1 month and I already had to correct the altitude in Strava more than 10 times. and that’s a hell lot of a price difference

The Suunto 9 doesn’t have an altimeter. You really need the 9 Baro. Ask where you purchased it and they may swap! I have came from a Fenix 3, 3hr then 5 and can assure you the 9 Baro is a much more solid unit and the Baro version is accurate.
It is also a big assumption to think Strava are correct calculating elevation. I cycle, we can go out as a group with the bulk using Garmin units of one kind or another and the difference in altitude gain is massive. Maybe from 800 meters to 1500 meters. Even with the same model of units.

Non Baro S9 doesn’t have any altimeter, it’s just based on GPS data and maybe you had bad GPS coverage
