Suunto 9 Firmware Update Suggestions

That’s the vid I remember: it shows a named waypoint (there’s a giveaway somewhere). Better than nothing, of course, it’s not, as yet, a POI. No sign of coordinate entry/modification (necessary if you don’t have the relevant map tiles on your phone for whatever reason). So not yet back up to even Movescount standards in this regard.
Is that tap on the screen actually adding a coord location (to the route) or does SA pick the nearest point on that auto-generated route and enable name editing? The former would seem to have the simpler potential for discrete POIs but the latter seems to be more likely.
SA seems to deal exclusively in routes: apparently, a WP will have to be “decoupled” from … something (notional short route?) … to provide a POI. And then the rest of the notional route is invisibly deleted? Curious.
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos said that WP first, and then POI will come, as, as far as i remember, WP is at SuuntoDev side, the basis for the POI implementation.
I think (hope) that things will arrive with nice UI implementation (like touch, zoom, select on the screen, etc…) and after, maybe, more tech entry ways may be implemented (like coordinates). For WP, you can plot the route and then add a WP where you see to want to put it, but you may also like to create a route, knowing the coordinate of the point you want to go (could we call it POI, before it becomes a WP ? ).
in brief, to me, and just to me, i will see what will come and react on what won’t be manageable to request enhancements. -

… Remember that the video was a “leak” from our Assange … just a taste
Sorry, what is an Assange ? without understanding, and with my english level, i am afraid to imagine the taste of something called Ass_ange
-
@Mff73 Assange = Julian Assange = Leakers ~= Me that breaks NDA
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos excellent explanation
-
-
so we need a Dimitrios who breaks NDA

@jorgefd78 I wonder what thinks @NickK
-
- Waypoint names displayed (not only types),
- Next waypoint name field that can be configured to be displayed on a training view (today only distance is avilable)
- Dedicated view (Ambit2/3 like) with next Waypoint name, distance and direction.

Virtual partner !

@Andrzej-Dabrowa I had exactly the same asks so many times (in this forum under a different name and on Facebook).
Suunto should copy Garmin’s way of customizing navigation. When navigation is enabled 1-3 additional screens can be added, and fields on those screens can be customized separately. For example I customized an additional navigation screen to display next waypoint name, distance to next waypoint, and ETE. The best part is that when not navigating on a route that screen is automatically hidden. That is a simple and elegant solution - better than Suunto’s approach of adding navigation specific fields on regular sport screens.
-
you can make two sport profiles. One for use with navi and 2nd without.
-
-
Customizable fields in watchfaces through APP, like workout fields are done
-
More than one suuntoplus function at a time
-
-
@Maryn I did have special sport profiles with Navigation in the past when I used Suunto 9. But that is cumbersome because that would lead to multiplying of very similar sport modes. I ended up having something like this:
- Trail running with HR
- Trail running without HR
- Trail running with HR and navigation fields.
- Trail running without HR but with navigation fields.
Pretty soon it becomes unmanageable and error prone.
It is far more elegant to enable additional navigation specific screens, that are also customizable, only when navigation is enabled.

@GNZ-ct completely agree. I like steps on all watch faces and as a S9B owner feel unhappy that all other watches got this on the new face!

Possibility to setup « climb » in suunto+. 10 m is really to low, my watch ring lot of time this morning.
I’ll go this week to 42kms, 3000D+ and i’m affraid for battery life if it vibrate any + or - 10 meters -
@ink357 if will been not every 10m. Except if you go on a camel type mountain (lots of camels) 10m is just the threshold for the feature to kick in. You can go up 1000m and it will be only one hill counted.
-
@ink357 As @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos says it not counts a hill every 10 m. Today I tested it in a 10 km run with 383 m of ascent and it registered 8 climbs.

thank you for that. My next question is what is the trigger to complete the climb which can be 10m or more hight.Maybe 10m descent?

2 datafield screens. There are certain runs when all I need is pace and distance or pace and interval number…etc.
-
@zrumlow have you tried using the 3 field display and choose the empty field for the lower and smaller number?
That should do it pretty well for you
