Have a good night everyone, I really hope you’ll be still able to use your Ambits, as well as I am mine.

@pavel-samokha I think you’ve got me wrong. Once more: I’m not arguing for new watch cajolery as policy. Nothin’ 'bout new watches. I’m neither @Prenj, nor @lohtse in this. Just @Fenr1r, offering a possible explanation here, answering your request for a specific reference there. Hopefully helpful, debate-enabling stuff.

As for that hand-on idea: seems fine by me. They could also, of course, have initiated their own trade-in scheme by which S,A&T owners send in their watches (a good test for how many truly considered them nerfed/borked) for a 50-70% discount on a newer model. Suunto could then distribute/refurbish/recycle the old ones as they saw fit. But the environmental impact of repeat shipping vs alternative benefit is beyond me. So pass 'em on: why not?

          @Fenr1r @pavel-samokha

I think the explanation here is more than Suunto cut themselves w/ Occam’s razor and they are trying to stop the bleeding.

I don’t for the life of me see how this isn’t (mis)management not wanting to devote development resources to the older tech while trying to move forward with the fitness tracker and training crowd. The Spartan and S9 are a totally different platform across the board from the Ambit series from what they said early on regarding the UI, technology, etc. If you have X number of developers and you need everyone of them on the current product line, all you can do is abandon the old platform and salvage what you can going forward.

And while a company the size of Apple just pulls old tech off the shelves and shoves it off somewhere either in the recycle bin or some 4th party discount reseller, Suunto is going to try and make a few bucks selling thru stock on Ambit3’s still in the supply line.

While I don’t agree w/ that direction, I can understand it I guess. I’m still waiting, twiddling my thumbs, for either S9 feature build out, or to see a fully functional combination of tools for managing my A3P. Don’t care if it’s 2 products, yes inconvenient, but if it works I’ll be happy enough w/ it.

The lack of clarity, direction, poor implementation, and the communication of all of this has been probably the worst I’ve ever seen from a company.

Opensource the A3P usb/bluetooth protocol to talk to the watch and watch me build POI management in a month or less. Gauntlet down.

It does however, I suppose, speak to the quality of Suunto watches and the UI design on the watch given I’m still considering an S9 over any competitor products.

I don’t need colour displays or shed loads of smart watch apps… Most folks who really enjoy the mountains don’t either we just need a watch like the Ambits.SIMPLE

You are so arrogant and full of yourself. Next time I want to enjoy a mountain I’ll ask for your permission.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Don’t think he does at all. It’s a comparative sentence (1st clause set up by “while”): “While a company the size of Apple … , Suunto …” The comma is the separation/differentiation point before a different entity and contrasting behavior. I.e., “Suunto [not the size of Apple] is going to …”

No worries, but that was my point. Apple can just toss their old stuff. Suunto however can’t afford to do that and its quite frankly wasteful. I’d still sell my old product line.

But I’d also support it fully as well if I were still actively sell them. The honest and decent thing to do is leave and keep MC fully 100% functional until you stop selling devices you aren’t going to support on that platform and THEN wind it down. Water under the bridge though. Done deal.

@pavel-samokha That is the reason why I moved to S9B. I wanted to be able to sync routes, modify settings, etc. when not in front of a computer. The reason why I switched my A2 for an A3P. So, when all this digital transition started and they left this out, I felt outraged.

@lohtse yes! And did you notice how they suggest users to pass their watches to someone else LOL

I don’t need colour displays or shed loads of smart watch apps… Most folks who really enjoy the mountains don’t either we just need a watch like the Ambits.SIMPLE

For me, the high resolution display on the S9 is much better than my A3P (yes I have one and a T6c and a Vector). The color is great for very quickly checking HR, blue, green, orange, red…I just need to know what zone I am in and slow down in a 100 mile race if I am too high. I have fewer screens because I can better see the numbers without my glasses. S9 wins for me over A3P…oh my races are in the mountains.

For me (in the mountains) the waypoints on the S9 are as the route is drawn not as the crow flies on the A3P, this is one of the key issues for me as I am often off trail. S9 wins here…in the mountains.

FusedTrack is magic!!! My long races or events with the A3P on Good GPS fix aren’t nearly as good. I don’t like carrying batteries or charging a watch during a race and I don’t use pacers or crew…in the mountains.

I have done a few exercises over the years, as you can see from the elevation gain, much of these are…in the mountains.

So, I totally disagree with you, the S9 wins for me hands down. I will miss MC though…

@Prenj That was me. But I opted for second hand market. No intention to give Suunto the price of a new watch. And less confidence on what they would do with it in the near future, considering the introduction of WearOS and how they managed the Ambits in this transition.

@Brad_Olwin I guess it depends on the user. For me, visibility is much worse, as you know. And, tough I recognize some benefits in color screen, I rather go with B&W. In the end, for some things (the way I use my watch) S9B is better, for others, is behind A3P. And some limitations in the firmware could be solved in the future (POIs or better navigation integration, for instance), but I am a bit skeptical.

I miss MC, too. Although @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos QS makes a very good job, indeed.

@Efejota - I don’t think wear os is going to distract from their current market. Fitness watches can’t be true smartwatches as limited and smartwatches cant be true fitness watches as the battery life just doesn’t hold yet (but the S7 with its latest updates is getting there).
Moving to a platform like wear os in the long term will be beneficial to Suunto in the long run (if they can solve battery life) as it gives them a massive already built platform and access to items like google pay etc, and they don’t have to maintain their own platform but can focus on content and other improvements.

I believe the S7 was made to compete against the very lucrative market share that Apple owns, and you can see how it is directly matched against it, and manages to beat it in loads of different categories (though is beaten in some). i don’t think it designed or specced to beat take on Garmin as the battery life just isn’t comparable, though I think that for a general sports user it does offer them a tempting choice, especially if the priced it 30% lower taking it into the Venu/Vivo range as it has a lot to offer than Garmin doesn’t provide, with battery life being the only con once price differential is removed (Outside North America it would also provide an additional selling point against latest versions of Apple Watch.

Here is another disappointed Ambit 3 user… Owner of an amazing watch (oldie now, but perfect for my needs) seeing how crappy Suunto app is as compared to movescount.

I just posted to https://forum.suunto.com/topic/5229/final-call-for-migration-from-movescount-how-to-migrate-all-moves-to-suunto-app/1?_=1601736278385 (sorry there are some many related threads). In particular I am interested in guaranteeing no data is lost in the migration. I have seen a user above with 4000+ moves… I only have 10% of that, but don’t want to lose any single track or heartbeat.

As my A3P is not able, to connect to my IPhone XS Bluetooth (14.01) after several pairing tries, I don‘t know what to do anymore!

Suunto.App is installed but worthless. MC luckily still works on an old IPad 2017 and pairing is okay but what will be the solution?! I’am bit frustrated because my Ambit is perfect for me but software is the opposite of good.

Does anybody have same problem here? My request to Suunto.app or alternative is only a mobile sync to an application which talks with Strava and tracks my swim, run and bike sessions…thx for comments and ideas!
