@markytarky no need to delete the post, but yes it was mentioned before. And it works pretty well! 🙂

@isazi then I’m just surprised that people are debating turn by turn in the “Suunto 9 peak” thread. As it already exists offline with Plotaroute.

@markytarky what I am guessing is that the Komoot implementation will be easier for the users, i.e. no need to import the GPX because Komoot will have a send to Suunto button of sort.
But I have never used Komoot routes, so I don’t know if their data and choices for e.g. where to put the directional waypoints are better.

@isazi I see, that might be the case, I prefer Plotaroute over the Komoot, but it is a personal choice. Thanks for the explanation 😄

Correct me if I am wrong, but the navigation with waypoints is more used in run/hiking/etc.
On cycling, maybe on exigent routes.
But I think for the average joe, the import with one click from komoot, and the navigaiton using only the “trace” is more than enough.
On garmin I use that integration with komoot and never looked for the waypoints, but maybe they are there.
The ease of use is nice.

@andré-faria well as I said I think is a personal preference. Yes the WP navigation is mostly used during trail running or races where you mark the aid station as WP and you know how far it is from you. Here we are talking about turn by turn where WP is used as a turning point, so you get notified when and where to turn.

                  Hi,
Yesterday I tried to create a route with komoot and the truth was that it was not very agile. I have been using Plotaroute since December, and if they do the synchronization part with Suunto, it would really be the best website to plan routes, but I understand that sunto brings out a new functionality of “turn by turn with komoot” and it must be very good.

maybe, maybe, the turn-by-turn will not be only a WP, named “turn left”, but also a visual indication of the maneuver to do.

@markytarky Did you try reversing direction on the route? Would the instructions (WP labels) somehow adapt?

@Mff73 If not, perhaps the Suunto-Komoot version will handle this under-the-hood.

That is a big drawback. The waypoints are at the right point, you get the right notification, but you get the opposite “direction” because the name of the waypoints is wrong in reverse.
Or this is how I remember this works.

@isazi I wonder if that’s also true of routes (“courses”) synced via Garmin Connect, which insists on adding TBT in watch xfers. Is there some proprietal app-watch magick that makes the instructions bi-directional on, say, @ldxmsg’s Tactix Delta? We can promise not to tell the S9B.

@fenr1r I don’t remember Garmin routes being reversable, they definitely are not on my Edge 520. But devices with routing capabilities should provide you navigation to go back to start, or get back in route.

@isazi In the 530 you have to reverse the route previously, in the app or web, not possible in the device. Never tried but is what I have read.

@cosmecosta yes I don’t think Garmin implements the same behavior as Suunto does, with the device deciding the direction of the route based on the direction you are currently moving.
Both approaches have their advantages and disadvantages.

@isazi yes you can reverse the route in the watch and get the correct directions, altitude profile and climb pro. At least in fénix 6x pro

True. In the etrex it was possible to do it on the device .

@jorgefd78 but you have to ask the watch to reverse course, right? Or you can just follow a route in reverse?

@markytarky just a newbie question what’s the difference between this and classic GPX you follow ?
I’m interesting if it’s help to be more precise when you have many small path to follow.
