Next S9 generation without map feature
-
I agree that maps are generally unusable in such small screens, but, some basic map features could be included in the display, for example roads, trails, rivers etc. That could be helpful.
-
@prenj maps can be usable if they are like the s7 + heatmaps.
Zoom with pinch etc.

I’ve used it quite a bit in the forrest near me when trying to explore trails I haven’t tried before. It’s a nice and simple way of figuring out if I’m still on said trail as most of them are on the map.
-
@zhang965 Not to mention the triskaidekaphobia in some markets that precludes “13th” floors in buildings.
-
@fenr1r Τρεις-και-δεκαφοβία you mean right ?

That’s the bunny.
(Is it even a thing in Greece? Or Someone Else’s Problem?)
-
@fenr1r nah no prob with that in Greece. ITs a western civil thing. right ?

So I gather (and Βικιπαίδεια “confirms”).
-
I guess it will be Suunto 888 for the Chinese speaking countries

For hiking in the mountains I’d still prefer paper map in most cases to get an overview. Of course I wouldn’t object to having them in the watch

Map and compass should be considered essential regardless of the watches capabilities (depending on how well you know the area obviously).

I think we should avoid 9 in German right?
“Would you suggest my a Suunto watch?”
“9”
“Why don’t you?” -
@zhang965 Suunto nein
-
@zhang965 also Brooklyn nein nein
-
@dimitrios-kanellopoulos first few seasons were fun

That is such a funny show!
-
@дима-мельниченко yeah at s5 I am starting to get a little picky
-
@dimitrios-kanellopoulos I guess it’s hard to have new fresh ideas after some time, and 100 episodes is quite a bit.

@dimitrios-kanellopoulos said in Next S9 generation without map feature:
To my understanding it’s ok if the next s9 does not have maps. It’s the next S9 not an S11 or S13 or S7. When the time comes we can ask the same question.
I do use GPX tracks and SA App to build a route for S9 navigation very often, which is perfect for me.
If there are questions about maps sometimes, I always prefer my phone with bigger screen.
Which is in reach within 1 second in my trail vest…
So I think I would not use maps on watch… -

As you can see in this video, the map feature is not planned for the next version of the S9…
I am very surprised to learn this because it is a feature I expected in the next S9. Am I alone?
I would rather prefer suunto to focus on “essential” (for me) things like sensors support, training load, structured workout than maps. And even on size, weight, confort.
As others said, on the fenix, it is not that awesome. Cool to have, but honestly, for me breadcrumb on the watch and good maps on phone/bike gps.
