@jamie-bg of course there should be current live HR display. That is why I wrote “another setting” that could be used by people who don’t need live HR data.
When I am riding my mountain bike, I am using the map display.
the watch logging distance, speed, HR etc does not matter. Still it could use the belt to sync data to the watch after the workout for the record. -

@brad_olwin headphones problem then I guess. I know the 65t have their ble antenne in the right ear, so I guess that’s the issue. Oh well, I’ll just use it on my right wrist until it’s time to replace them. Thanks for feedback.

@jamie-bg Just to further clarify my point, from what I gathered from one of the moderates, Suunto made it so their own training app ran through the coprocessor on the watch in order to stretch battery life while training especially gps routes. Sportygo and other apps aren’t engineered in that same manner and run on the main processor of the watch which there for may allow them more options when it comes to connecting to sensors.

I use Aftershox Aeropex and they work really well and I could even be in the next room and still maintain a stable connection.

@jamie-bg this is a reply I got from a moderator back in January about the coprocessor and a Bluetooth heart rate monitor, within this very topic of the forum.

Correct. They are able to disable this though. For instance when you look at the map it goes from that black-and-white arrow to a full blown map. From what I gather, this is the app moving over to the non-power saving core(s). I’m guessing if you turn on the always on map function from settings, the app probably stays in high power mode throughout the exercise (as long as you have the map screen open).

@aleksander-h laps are the thing I am not 100% sure about, but it should be.

@aleksander-h yes - if you look at you watch post the auto lap notification you will notice that the Active Hr zones are slightly thicker than usual - which of course means the main coprocessor is active.

@brotzfrog10 i love the watch both as sport watch and smart watch but the lack of external sensor is a huge disappointment since i do different kinds of sport in tennis sometimes it looses its accuracy and u do kick boxing and for that i have to use my old m5 suunto watch SUUNTO PLZZZZZ ADD EXTERNAL BELT FOR SUUNTO 7

You can do this today, if your sensor supports it.
I run with S7 and a Stryd Power Meter.
On completion, I offline-sync the Power Meter, export the ‘power data only’ GPX, and in GoldenCheetah, import, merge and crop (if I for example finish my activity on the Watch, the Power Meter is still recording movement if I walk quickly) with the regular activity data that has synced there from SA or Strava or somewhere, export, and upload to TrainingPeaks and Runalyze. Takes me less than a minute end to end.
I think Suunto COULD theoretically do this post-activity merging automatically, given Stryd can be linked as a ‘partner app’ and they seem to do this with other watch models…I’d like to see if THIS does exactly how I interpret it >>
Suunto >> “When you sync your watch with Suunto App after a run and then sync your Stryd with the Stryd app, you can take advantage of a variety of other unique metrics measured directly from the foot: form power, ground contact time, leg spring stiffness, vertical oscillation, and wind power. Run with Watch and paired power meter - some basic power data included directly in the activity? Then do a Stryd Offline Sync, so you get all that extra Wind/Stiffness data etc into Stryd. And the SA either polls or gets pushed from Stryd all that extra data and merges it into the existing activity, so you can see it all in SA on phone?? -

I was more focusing on the capabilities of the Suunto HR strap and sensor though. Ideally this woudl happen on the watch and not in some manual post processing. -

Thankfully I’m not as bothered about ‘running strictly to power’ as I once was…its just nice to have it there for a bit of simple analysis afterwards.

@Brad_Olwin Thanks for the info refering to this topic, I have read it before a little quick and got nor an easy short response not a clue about using the S7 with my HR belt and I’m sorry if I sound rude, but I could just start swearing about how not to do things and would end up a fight fixing nothing, so I prefer not.
Honestly I could never imagine something like this, like buying an electric bycicle which you can not use the pedals anymore, this is the kind of feeling I have now with the S7 not having the most simple and basic option of any HR monitor, the chest belt.
So if someone is happy about this, go and thank the one brilliant mind responsible of this, I am completely not and feel completely frustrated with it.
Again, if there is only one simple at least way to do so I will appreciate the help, otherwise I would be forced to sell it feeling I have just bought my wife an expensive useless piece of ****.

Completely out off topic because this is not the topic, I’m not trying to fool anyone, buying or selling, the one fooled here is every person who made possible to loose this simple and basic feature, call it the name you want to call it.
Feeling very disappointed with S7 right now. After one month from the purchase it have been in the official service because there was no way to start any sport. Sport mode app got stuck and a black screen followed by the time display every attempt, not being able to synch it via phone app either and now this great news!

@rhustox you might just have an unlucky unit, that’s all.
Concerning HR belt - that would be a deal-breaker for me too, but you may be could have done you research better? Btw you can use an HR belt with other apps on S7 but not suunto and than sync too SA of needed. Also I hear ohr is very good on the unit, maybe it would suffice?
Lastly if you feel like s9/s5 would suit your needs better than s7 as it lacks some features (HR belt, pods, HR zones) you could contact support maybe? I’m think they could let trade your watch for another one with a little extra payment.
