@dmytro yes. That’s true. And it makes all the difference, to me.

@andré-faria Titanium scratches easier than steel. But I don’t know, how easily does the paint scratch on steel. If it’s similar to s9, then I’d say it’s pretty scratch resistant. 2 years of wear and tear - paint scratches barely noticeable.

@DMytro upon deciding between black one and ti I got this answer.
          Although I didn’t ask about steel brushed…
I am thinking that if this is no coating maybe it was just polished to look shiny (it is not brushed as the rest of the casing ) and so the really small scratches can be normal, but for the two deeper ones I don’t think so…
Not super annoyed or something like that, let’s wait for suunto’s feedback

Same very small scratches on my new 9 Peak Titanium. The problem is that the more the bezel is shiny, the more is prone to scratch. So, maybe, these scratches could be polished with a car polish as Titanium are softer than steel…

Are there more experiences with the titanium edition? This issue really hinders me from buying one, spent 700 Bucks for a watch which is so easy to scratch is not acceptable.

Just read the test report from DC Rainmaker. The scratches are also very good to see on the pictures attached to the report.!

              Example:

@becco981 I’d also advise against wearing an expensive sports watch while cycling. I know it looks cool in pictures but it’s extremely risky; especially if you use clipples pedals. Not that long ago I was wearing my Suunto 9 on my left wrist and my Garmin Forerunner 945 on the right while riding my bike. Long story short, I had a minor accident and ended up cracking the screen of my 945 when I fell on the ground. Had I fallen the other way, I would have fallen on my Suunto 9. I’d much rather damage a Garmin than a Suunto. I ended up buying the Suunto bike mount and I love it. I’ll probably never wear another GPS watch on my wrist while cycling.

Btw I was testing the 945 at the time when I fell. Not sure how the Suunto would have held up (and I don’t want to find out), but I learned very quickly about the poor quality of Garmin devices.

@tyresej4 I’m just comparing the strength of the old S9BTi to the weakness of the new one. They’re both made of grade 5 titanium but the S9PTi is going to be damaged too easily.
I can accept a scratch if I hit the pedal of my bike or a rock.

@kowi_01 yes! It’s so frustrating! 700€ for a watch that is going to be damaged and scratched just by looking at it.
There is also another thread on this forum regarding the glass. Some models have the glass not perfectly placed inside the case.

Take it easy, faults happen everywhere, specially with the tension on supply it is very easy to have deviations.
No production/quality control is infalible. Lets wait to see what Suunto answers.
Regarding that glass problem, honestly I think it is asking too much, at least from my watch.
Only if I analyze it closely I can see. The watch was made to use not to look at.
Not an excuse for suunto, but we can also pay 700eur for a 945 lte made of plastic without sapphire glass. It will scratch easy also.

This might seem counter-intuitive since, in practical daily use, titanium seems to scratch more easily than stainless steel. However, this is because titanium naturally forms an oxide layer on the surface, which can scratch relatively easily

So most probably you are seeing not just or not scratches but the layer thats why on low light it wont show.

From what I see from my TI version that I dont use often (old prototype) those dont really look like scratches, or lets say , the nail does not feel like a scratch when I pass it over.

Thanks for clarification.Knowing that, seems a risky choice from suunto.
But weightwise, at least, it makes the watch a pleasure to use!

@andré-faria Ok, I’m waiting for an answer from the support as well.
I’ll keep you posted on it.

I think it is reasonable. Let’s see how it goes.
I am not super bothered with this, more like concerned about the day I start going more outdoors and time passes by.
But they had testers on it so maybe it is just some deviation on production.

Is there already an update to this topic? Would be Good to know if the scratch problem is just related to some units.

The “problem” was reported by me and @becco981 less than a week ago. From my contacts with Suunto, it was kinda an isolated case.
Still, it won’t be in a week that any brand will know that. Also if it wasn’t detected in testing, mostly it can be isolated cases.
As I said, my scratches in “normal” light, at normal distance are not noticeable, only when you had the watch near you, you can see it is scratched and on my side, nothing to justify it.
We need to have confidence in the brand, that if any problem occurs they understand it and honor the warranty. But for such a new watch, probably with not as much sales , it will be difficult to have a conclusion soon.
If the watch pleases you in terms of functions, buy it with confidence, it is a great piece of kit, specially reagrding confort, quality, weight.
I received yesterday a 945 lte, and it made me even be more amazed by the S9P in terms of confort, weight.

@kowi_01 If it’s of any help, i have by now owned a titanium peak for more than a week. I use it for nearly 24 hours everyday, and i’m very rough users and i do not have any single scratch or anything. Likewise, my unit also does not have any slanted glass issue. All in all, very perfect and solid build.

so i believe, the scratch problems might be related to some units / batches only.

@kowi_01 I tested three different units and all of them got easily scratched after few days of normal use. It’s not related to “some unit”, I think.
Furthermore, all three units had the glass not perfectly placed in the titanium ring. (see specific thread).

Suunto customer care says to send the watch to their customer service in order to better inspect the issue. But, in case they don’t admit the issue, I have to pay for service and shipment.
