      Hello,
I’m curious about the possibility of zooming in and out on the watch.
The current 2km range is not very useful for me.
I wonder what prevents the watch from having this feature increased.
I often zoom out to 50km or more when I want to see the whole route or when I need to find my way in the mountains.
Without this, it’s hard to orient myself in the mountainous terrain.

        @Johann
        50km ?!

when I need to find my way in the mountains.

What do you expect to see in a watch screen at that zoom level ?

The fact that zoom level layers needs to be “tailored” to HW resources to strip out useless info (eg. street name)

@Johann I would not find much more zoom very helpful on a small watch face. Wouldn’t a bigger screen serve you better? At that zoom level on a watch I imagine all detail would be lost, only the route would show on a blank background.

With this in mind, which has the bigger screen in practice - especially when this transfers to the size of text used on training screens? Race or Vertical?

I apologize for the typo. I meant to write 5km, not 50km.
When you are hiking in the mountains, it is useful to have a wider view of the map (5 or 10km). This way, you can see the landmarks, such as the lake, the peak, the main paths, the next town and so on.

I had the suspicion it was a typo 😁

5km could be the limit, but I’m not 100% sure it would be useful on a watch screen.
That’s a different story if we talk about handheld

@Johann That’s better! I agree as long as the trails/roads are still visible.

For me there is no need for a zoom larger than 2km. For naviation, I use 500m max.
What I do miss however, is the route overview. It was available on the S9P by tapping on the navigation screen. It showed you the whole route and your position on this route.

@surfboomerang navigation screen not necessary use for navigation only. it can use for remaining distance estimation.
for zoom 1km and 2km i’ll use it to estimate my remaining distance to the summit (of course i’ll put waypoint first on the map) because sometimes i lazy to press nxt button for the next screen to check remaining distance.
for navigation i only use up to 500m

I live high up north and discovered that the maximum zoom out scope possible decreases steadily as you travel closer to the North pole.

One hour car drive above the polar circle decreases maximum zoom out scope to 1.8 km. This is in the mountain range in northern Scandinavia where hiking is popular.

Increasing maximum zoom scope to 5 or even better 10 km would be valuable.

@ab100 Suunto is aware of this current limitation, and if resources allow it this may change in the future. It is always a balance.
