Hi there! I recently gave a try to this SuuntoPlus Guide “7 Minute Workout” (v. 10.09.2023). The idea is fanastic, but I’ve found the lap counting soooo intrusive that makes me think I may be doing something wrong.

    Let me explain.

So, you fire up a weight training activity and select the S+ Guide. With the middle button you’ll go to the screen for that guide and with the lap button you’ll start it. First, 10min warmup comes and then the actual 12 exercises will follow. Each exercise is 30s + 10s rest time. Problems I see:

    • The lap counter screen will pop for 10s when a new exercise starts, meaning that you won’t see the name of the exercise at the beginning of it, but only after 10s (alternatively you can click the middle button to dismiss it, but then you have to stop doing the exercise, and repeat for the 12 of them…)

    • The lap beep is a great sound feedback indicating a new exercise starts, but you don’t get any feedback when an exercise finishes and you’re into resting time.

I would expect something in the lines of:

    1. Start the guide with middle button and commence the warmup session (would be great to have this warmup time user configurable to, say, 10min, 5min, 3min?)
    2. For exercises 1 to 12:
2.1 Long beep and start the exercise showing the screen corresponding to the exercise (not showing the lap screen for 10s…)
2.2 Start beep countdown at 25s, long beep at 30s, go to rest screen for 10s rest time.
2.3 Start beep countdown at 5s, long beep at 0, then repeat.

    Questions:

    • Am I using the guide as expected by design?
    • Can I turn off lap counting somehow? I couldn’t find how… Autolap is obviously off.

    Thanks for your feedback!

@fv4500 I tried multiple time as well, and ran into the exact same problems and had the exact same thought as you, its utterly insane how bad, half baked and useless it is.
Its like no one at Suunto tried it.

But one remark : you can skip the warmup when you feel like it, so the warmup duration isn’t really a problem IMO

Thanks for the feedback @Elipsus. And good point on skipping phases: using the lap button you jump to the next one, thanks.

There’s no way to turn off lap screens or lap counting? Alternatively, could a structured workout be produced by the user to get a usable workflow for the 7MW?

        Cheers!

@fv4500 I have the same problem and fully agree with your comments… Even with customised workouts the settings are limited. When I plan my guides, I put the names of the workouts in the recovery section to foreshadow what comes next. The big problem is that when I finish working on a structured exercise and test the guide, sometimes I make a mistake and there is no way to edit the custom workout, which is quite illogical, you still have to create the workout from scratch.
This guide you write about here needs editing primarily because there is no signal to tell you when to rest. I add the time to turn off the auto-run screen and read what exercise to do in my rest time. However, this misses the point. There should at least be an editing option available.

            Hello!
I completely agree with these problems and the imperfection of the programme. I really dislike the lack of an audible message at the end of an exercise and the too long exercise summary which is completely irrelevant when you already have to do another exercise:)
