Hi, I have had the Spartan Sport for a few years and have been happy with all the features. The battery life lasts for hikes around 5h, which is typically okay, but I’m planning an epic trip to Patagonia with hikes 8h+. Which Suunto should I upgrade to? Thanks in advance 🙂

@Mardee-Saxton it depends on your needs and budget.
      Basically :
      Maps => Vertical or Race
No Maps => S9 PP (small size), or S9b (but it won’t get updates now and it’s 5 years old)

with all those watches you’ll get excellent battery life. On this point, S9B<S9pp< SR < SV

Race as an amoled screen. All other watches have MIPS screen.

Just have a look to suunto’s website you’ll find all details and visuals.

      Suunto’s devices at home :
      Vertical titanium solar
      Suunto Race S
      S9pp titanium sand
      Suunto Wing
      S9B titanium Ambassador edition, A3P, X6

@Mardee-Saxton I went with the Vertical solar strictly for battery life. I came from a Baro 9 and went to the Peak but found its smaller size great for daily wear but harder to use on the trail.

The Vertical had the larger screen size like the Baro but is still easily wearable, MIPs (which I prefer) and a battery that lasts longer than I do.

The Race is probably the nearest in size / equivalent budget to your Spartan, with a similar, but better, screen, and either it or the Vertical would be a very good upgrade from the SS.

The normal steel Race would be a bit heavier than the SS, the Titanium Race would be lighter, but more expensive.

Here I have set you up a comparison page - you can swap a Vertical instead of the Races if you like:

          Have fun choosing!

SV Ti All Black, Coros Apex Pro, Ambit 3 Peak, Ambit 3 Sport (sold), Ambit 2 (Sold), X10 Mi (Retired), Quest (Sold), T3 (Sold), T6C (Retired as unfixable - Suunto gave me a big discount on Ambit 2!), Polar H10 belt, Suunto Smart Belt

Thank you all for the thorough and thoughtful responses! The comparison chart is super helpful … doing the research now and looking forward to recording more and longer adventures.

Hi @Mardee-Saxton, what did you choose and how do you feel compared to the older sunnto SS?.
I’m on the same situation these days.
              Thx, Oscüi
