      I tested a run in a rather dense area in Athens and the results of the gps leave a lot to be desired (kind of normal maybe ) . I think one of the issues some other vendors offer and probably would make sense is when starting an activity the watch would correct -fix the starting location by using the mobile geolocation (which is more accurate) .

      In my case as one could observe… the track in the city is indeed off and the starting location is like 9-10 blocks away (it should be almost the same as the finishing mark and like 800m off )

          @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Is this fix only about using the GSM location, or is it some larger fix that would help when such a problem sometimes happens far from civilization?
          A green GPS signal icon does not always mean the highest accuracy at the start.

            @maszop there is no GSM in use when recording your activity with your Suunto watch.

              @Egika I know about it. I’m asking about this fix.
              Does it take into account any GSM data (and therefore only work in cities), or does this fix apply to location determination and its accuracy at the start in general?

                @maszop To be more precise:
                Current Suunto watches have no hardware to use GSM information. So today and in future GSM will not be used by the watch.
                There are fixes in the GNSS receiver firmware that should improve it’s precision.

                Good to know: GSM positioning is a LOT less precise than any GNSS. Even more so in areas where there are not too many antennas around…

                  @Egika Yes, it is usually less accurate, but it helps in the initial phase of determining the location (AGPS).
                  Before starting an activity, the watch could inform you that this data has not been updated recently (e.g. a different color of the GPS icon).

                    you are right - and in fact this is the way it is working.
                    In case of outdated or missing AGPS data the watch will display a yellow warning screen with this information.

                      @Egika Great, I never even noticed it 😁
                      There is one more tiny problem, also discussed here on the forum. I hope this fix will eliminate it.

                      The AGPS data seems to be up to date, but we are driving somewhere further away. The watch thinks everything is OK, displays a green GPS sign that everything is ready, but the accuracy is relatively low for a few or a dozen minutes before everything is set precisely.
