Suunto Ocean general discussion
-
@Patrick-Löffler-0 well, my answer is not official because I do not work for Suunto
-
@isazi Thanks. I know. And fully clear. Anyway highly appreciated.
-
Does anybody use the Ocean already for sleep tracking and can tell if it shows the sleep score on the watch? Thanks
-
@Patrick-Löffler-0 it shows the sleep score
-
@isazi You are so fast! Thanks. But it does not have the new watch faces of the actual Race/Vertical/9PP firmware update? For that it also needs the latest firmware update, which will take time.
-
@Patrick-Löffler-0 it has at least one new watch face, the one with the diving ring. To be honest I lost track of all watchfaces, and I cannot turn it on now (need to travel today).
-
@isazi Thanks again. Safe travels then. The background for all these questions is: I am thinking of getting one. Although I am no diver. It just looks so stunning. I am trying to find out if it can be my daily driver instead of the Race or even the Race S (which I find also interesting, but mainly because of the new OHR sensor and lighter weight).
-
@Patrick-Löffler-0 I can help. The Ocean has the same watch faces as the Vertical but does not have the firmware update so you cannot select the complications as with the most recent update. Because this is a diving watch updates must be carefully tested and cannot affect diving functions. The update will come to the Ocean but it will not get updates as often as the sport watches. I can post photos if you wish.
-
@Patrick-Löffler-0 I have the 3 as of now The Ocean is the biggest and most stunning watch among them, the Race is not far in beauty and I find the crown pleasant to use and is my daily driver and than the Vertical being the titanium is the lightest that I use in demanding environments (don’t care a lot about scratching it etc.).
-
@Brad_Olwin Thank you Brad. Does it have this one as well? And may I ask your opinion about having it as a daily driver. I know that you wrote somewhere that you wear the Race S now a lot because of its light weight. So it’s weight versus extreme good looking watch.
-
@Patrick-Löffler-0 That particular watch face is not present but I suspect it will be in the future.
As a daily driver I tested the watch for at least a week or two. For me, it works as well as the Race or Vertical, no issues other than weight. Part of that weight is the band. So, to get the weight down as much as possible I purchased a third party Velcro band. It works extremely well and gives me surprisingly good OHR readings while running trails, in fact, very good. The velcro band prevents the watch from moving around.
I do not have big wrists so it is heavy to wear at night, however, again with the Velcro band it is more comfortable than the silicone bands.

Hello everyone, I have been using SO for four days. Switching from S9 - I still don’t know why I change every 5 years, I started my adventure with Suunto with Ambit2.
Coming back to SO, a lot has already been written but:- remember when getting on the bike and attaching the watch to the handlebar - the screen must always be ON
- the charger has a very short cable and compared to the previous ones, the magnet is symbolic (there is no way you can hang the watch on the cable)
- no information about the value pack in the box, you have to read notifications from the application
- it’s heavy, no matter what strap. You can feel it in your hand much more than S9
- I miss a lot of information about the hours of total regeneration after training - such a large ring that was in S9
- they could add more screens to scroll with the middle button or the ability to arrange the order of widgets for the bottom menu
- more watchface, of course
- mobile notifications make no sense: icon - a large inscription that someone is calling and at the bottom in the smallest font who is calling
On the other hand, it’s a fucking beautiful watch. The holidays are coming soon and I will test it in many activities.
-
@Filip-S The order of the widgets is configurable via the app. Just drag and drop. And also enable/disable them.
-
@EzioAuditore Thx! Yes it works in APP!
-
@Filip-S Thanks, And also @isazi and @Brad_Olwin In real life it is even more beautiful than in the pictures. The screen is somehow more vibrant than in my Race. Is that just me or do you experience that as well. My local dealer had one black one. Now he is out of stock.

Let’s discuss the new device here

Good evening guys. I purchased it the day after it came out. It was the product I was waiting for. A single watch for sporting life and diving. With the pro club I am waiting for the probe to arrive and with half the price of the mk3 I have a fantastic product.

Had the Ocean for about a week now and must say, it is a beautiful watch and I’m really enjoying it. Very impressed with it so far. I haven’t been able to do any activities as I’m recovering from quite a major surgery at the moment, however the one thing I have been able to test is the sleep tracking. My sleep has been shockingly bad for the last couple of nights and the watch often reckons I’m asleep when I’m not. Last night for instance, it recorded that I fell asleep at 2am and slept until 8am with a couple of awake periods here and there when in actual fact I only fell asleep at around 4:45am. I was very restless and wide awake up until the point that I fell asleep and was also using the watch every now and then (I’m not 100% sure, but I think I was flicking through the menus at one of the points where it says I was sleeping - will pay more attention to that in the coming nights to see if it overlaps with an awake period or a sleep period). Hope this gets some improvement when the upcoming update gets released

Is it okay to take up diving just to buy a new watch?
-
@JonasLarsson Absolutely.

So,
i had my Ocean to it’s first Dive now. All worked pretty well. The display is really good readable.
It however did somehow not track my dive path as promised (maybe because it activated due to getting 1,5m deep instead of manually at the top before diving, need to try out next time.
What i find a bit unpratical is the views underwater, there is no way getting into the compass view wich is confusing as this was possible with the Suunto D5. Maybe that would be something for a later patch?
I can also not say much to the tank pot as i had to lend a reglator due to forgetting mine at home.Greetings
Sven
