Suunto Race S general discussion

@szleslie It seems to me when I try to import/share a route to Suunto/Garmin/Zepp/Bryton app they need an internet connection to do something with the gpx on their servers and load it back to the app then to the device. Only the Zepp app seems to accept the import but I do not have a device with me I am not sure about the result on the watch. When offline the import is not possible except the Zepp but in the app the imported route has less points than the original gpx and cut corners and not follows roads perfectly. I uploaded the Mapout crated gpx file to two different gpx visualiser page. The track follows the roads or paths fine. When the garmin watch create a route itself the result is perfect as well. So it is not a watch limit.

@Tieutieu @szleslie @isazi Updating a route while in an activity worked well for me yesterday. I’d created a komoot route for my workout and started the activity etc. only to realise turn-by-turn was enabled and I really didn’t want it. So I pulled up the control panel, set the navigation to ‘off’ then, leaving the watch in the control panel (and while still running, I might add), opened up the SA, turned off turn-by-turn for the route and waited for it to sync. Then I changed navigation on the watch back to the route I wanted and exited the control panel and everything worked perfectly. I only switched navigation to ‘off’ due to the comment @szleslie made about editing an active route crashing the watch
First time I’ve tried this, thanks to this discussion! In the past I would have assumed I’d need to stop the activity because normal sync of the watch won’t work when anywhere other than the ‘home’ screen.
Thanks for the tip and more people should know about this hugely useful feature!

@szleslie
Just tested with Android, and it works like a charm.
Locusmap offline gpx generation. Share to SuuntoApp, and zou, all offline.
Tried the same “in activity”, works also.

@Mff73 I can confirm. Offline route import is working on Android. I tried it on my old backup phone. (Garmin Connect can not import a gpx in offline on Android). Why is it so? Is it an iOS limitation?
-
@szleslie I asked support. The main reason is iOS System Permissions and Design Limitations and Differences Between Android and iOS Platforms. Android is more flexible.

Is there a way to display NGP in the watch without having the climb app ?
I like it but I don’t want the auto laps generated by climb when racing, I prefer to do laps at aid station or specific points. Thanks !

@tomtom73 ZoneSense app can display it

Got my Race S just a couple of months ago, very pleased with it.
Finally got my screens as i wanted them.Last night however my watch had a spontaneous factory reset, and i lost all my settings, not very amused.
Maybe it has to do with an update. Is there anyone else with this issue, and is there a way that i could have prevented this? Or is there a way to backup and restore my settings?

Watch could download update automatically from Your app but as far as I know (I got Race, previously Vertical) It wont DO update automatically.

When i went to sleep, everything was fine.
When i woke up, and wanted to put my Race S on my wrist (i don’t sleep with my watch), I needed to select the language, let the watch know my weight and length and needed to make a new connection with the Suunto app. Could still see my old Spartan in the app.I do not let Android automatically update my apps.
Pixel 7, Android 16
Suunto app: 5.3.7 (5003007)
