Zonesense race vs race S
-
hi all, im expecting to leave garmin and buy suunto.
reasons i feel garmin metrics dont offer correct stress strain fatigue and the bugs.looking at the race vs race s, after watching reviews i am correct the race S is a far superior watch with the updated optical HR
or do users see progress with the updates on Race in recent weeks/months?ZoneSense(ZS) and HRV, how much of the data from daily sleep etc HRV effects this data, or is ZS good with just the HR strap during cycling running?
off topic questions
*can i lock the watch face for daily and sport sessions
*i Zwift so can the watch beam HR and can ZS be applied as a livefeed on eatch during session, will zwift/strava/TP upload into the watch
*running cadence, how do you achieve this with race/raceS
*cycling how many bluetooth items can be linked to the watch in session as i use 2 at moment HR strap and Power meter
*can i create custom cycling modes for each discipline MTB cyclocross Gravel ?we dont expect a updated Race within months with the new optical HR found on the raceS?
thank you for any replies

@superstu
Race and Race S are pretty similar and I would not call the Race S far superior. The optical HR sensor has seen a change. The bigger Race has a physical weight disadvantage here.
Would not base my decision on the HR sensor, more on the size and battery run time.ZoneSense is a great new tech and can only be used with a chest strap. Optical measurement is not precise enough.
Lock: yes, you can lock the screen in watch and activity mode
Zwift: No, Suunto watches cannot transmit HR data to other devices
Cadence: Is available as data fields in custom sport modes. Plus there is a “cadence coach” S+ app
BT Sensors: 1 HR strap, 1 bike cadence/speed sensor, 1 power sensor, 1 foot pod. Only one of each type.
Cycling modes: yes. you can create as many custom sport modes for the different cycling types as you like. There are also pre-defined ones.No new Race on the horizon.

Just to add to this regarding HR ‘beaming’.
Most people here would, I think, agree with me that the watch OHR isn’t going to give you as good results as a separate HR sensor - regardless of OHR or ECG belt. Furthermore, ZoneSense requires a belt. Pretty much all separate HR devices these days can pair to multiple devices at the same time - usually 2, sometimes 3. As such, you can pair the HR sensor to both your watch (and use ZoneSense if it is an ecg belt) and zwift at the same time.

@far-blue thanks for both replies, just the hanging issue for me is zwift training(5-8hrs/wk) and suunto, once this is achieved i’ll be on suunto. it is odd its not already active for zwift to upload into suunto app

@superstu Well, that would be a zwift thing, not a suunto thing. However, Suunto has by far the largest open community of integrations due to their open API. Unlike other companies (cough garmin, coros cough) they don’t have a “walled garden” attitude. There are hundreds of options for getting data in and out of the Suunto platform so I’m sure you would be able to find a way to sync zwift data Most people’s first try is simply to sync through Strava
