@brechtvb I’m glad you feel you can rely on it for your activities 🙂

However, the internet is littered with posts, comments and reviews from thousands of people who can’t, regardless of whether it’s a $100 amazfit or a $1000 Fenix. The wrist is pretty much the worst possible place to try and take an optical HR reading.

@far-blued I’m really unhappy with the optical heart race on My Suunto Race S, the data is inconsistency even though I follow all the wearing tip from the manufacturer. I have not get the similar issue with other optical watch brand.
It is very annoying when going out for a run then suddenly there is no heart rate signal on watch or it jump extremely high.

There is a new update: 2.40.38
who knows this solves a thing.

@brechtvb For me the update solved nothing, perhaps made the OHR situation worse, i.e. fewer reasonable readings (not exercising).

@erik_ibk I have the same problem and these are vital things to work so I’m really disappointed this issue has been constant for weeks and nothing is being done, even if MANY people are having the same issues. I think I might return the watch since these issues have been here the whole time I have had this. So disappointing.

I can’t just be restarting this all the time and I can’t know when it is not going to measure the sleep. So it’s not helping to restart to get that sleep data back. How is it possible that there has been promised update but it’s been WEEKS? this would have never happened with Garmin. So I guess I have to return this then?

                  Hello,

new Race S owner here. I bought this watch to monitor my fitness-condition. I’m well over 60 and not a huge sporter. I monitor my walks and cycle-tours and my morning-fitness.

My Race S is made in China, sw-ver 2.40.44, it’s 1,5 month since I bought it.

To my regret the HRM is proven to be wrong. F.i. this morning on a very slow short walk with a disabled person it showed values around and above 140 beats. I can assure this this was not the case, our walking speed was below 3 km/h. This happend before also; a sudden increase in beats which sometimes jumps back to the real value, and sometimes stays on the wrong value till I end the activity.

Another example: exact the same fitness exercise, usally shows HRM somewhere between 90 and 115 (which I asume more or less correct; it’s not a very hard exercise) but occasionly it jumpes to 140 and higher.

What to do? Contacting support? Returning the watch? Waiting for a SW-update?

                  Thanks!
                  Ernst, NL

@ernst-sleijser It could be locking on to your cadence (i.e. walking pace) due to the watch being a little loose or on the bony part of the wrist. Have you followed the guidelines for how to wear the watch during an activity? It should be slightly further away from your wrist than you’d usually wear a watch and it should be maybe 1 notch on the Strap tighter than you’d usually wear it so you can’t see the green light when you flex your wrist. That might help.

Thank you for your response! When I look at the watch on my wrist I can see de bottom touching my skin, there is no gap there. It is however possible to lift it by hand, about two millimeters.
So your explanation about the cadence could be the case. I will increase the pressure during activities to see if it makes any differences. The position on my wrist is correct.
