Remove tank pod o-ring with hose extension?

I was in a shop recently talking about adding my Suunto pod to my reg. The shop folks sold me the hose extension (Sunnto branded kit with hose and the type B flow restrictor). They told me to remove the o-ring on from the pod when using a hose extension. Does that sound right to anyone else? I didn’t see that noted in the manual.
