Lets see what the users say. I also am not so familiar with this one. Sorry

@miniping I do use the intervals and navigation during the same run, but never at the same time. Typical run would be activating a route / POI (so navigation function on) to get to a stadium / a hill where I will do the intervalls, then activate the intervals (navigation function off), and resume navigation when the intervals are done.
So yes I don’t activate the intervals from the start of the run (I don’t see the benefit, even in the automatic intervall description you get in SA, the ‘warmup’ before actually starting the intervalls is not taken into account…)

@jean-william-cousin Thanks I had the same experience but could not remember.

Funny: I also used navigation to get to the stadium and back 😄

Btw just to add, you can pause eg at the stadium and take your time to set them up

Probably the easiest way to solve this is with a multisport change. I use different screens for intervals and for running with navigation on. So you could have a basic running profile where you activate navigation, go where you need to for intervals, switch to an interval mode with no navigation, finish your intervals and if needed switch back to navigation.
I have a specific sport mode dedicated to navigation where I can use ETE and ETA and have labeled this “Route”. I have another for training with power and one for intervals as well as a basic. For me these are all trail running profiles and I can switch them whenever I need to.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Not sure about this, I think the interval screen disables the Nav but have not checked with SA customization in the latest update.

@Brad_Olwin Interval screens are just like any other screen as far as I know. You can stay on them for a duration of an interval, or you can switch to a different screen including navigation.

So, all @miniping has to do is to have a sport mode that includes both navigation and interval screens (I think all standard running modes do). Then indeed start with the navigation screen, warm up, switch to intervals screen, do them, then switch back to navigation. Otherwise, the watch would remain on the interval screen with an option to reset and start again. Hell, he can even define the intervals while running by using options.

The only thing I never tried is if you would get off-route alerts while doing an interval… That would be interesting to verify.

@NickK I’ll then do futher tests but this morning it wasn’t possible to have both the navigation and interval screen enabled. I had to desactivate interval to be able to scroll onto navigation.

@miniping Was it impossible to activate navigation during an active interval, or recovery, or both? Perhaps, it is impossible. I know you can have both, and I’m fairly certain I was able to move away from intervals during recovery… But I haven’t tried it with route navigation.

I just tested it it works.

Listen @miniping do the following (if it fits you)

                      • Create a sport mode with the interval screen you like

                      • Before you start the activity go and setup your intervals but do not turn them on.

                      • Use navigation as you like reach the point that you start the intervals

                      • Pause and go to options and turn on intervals

                      • Interaval screen is not there and navigation screen is gone

                      • Finish or stop the intervals

                      • Pause and go to options - Intervals should be automatically turned off or at least you can again turn them off

                      • Navigation now should be back and intervals gone

                      • Navigate back home etc.

That sounds good. Thanks Dimitrios, as usually, hoping the trick runs also for SSU

                          @Saketo-Nemo it does.

Ah perhaps important: When I tried in the morning (when first saw the post) the default interval sport profile that comes with the watch it did not allow me to navigate 😞 maybe that is the case here @miniping ?

@miniping said in S9: Combined screens of interval and navigation:

I think you are correct, I encountered this with past firmware but have not tested lately. I will test this today on my run and report back.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I will now proceed as you suggested !
It was with the default “trailrunning” profile of the watch, and further tests I did just now have the same result. What I tested:

                              • Start Navigation in options, then interval after the start of the activity
                              • Start Interval in options, then navigation after the start of the activity
                              • Star nothing in option, start on, then the other after the start of the activity
                              • One random test in running default mode
                              • One random test with MTB default mode
Sooooo, I conclude that…well I was right at my first post !

Well, that could be a feature idea for Suunto developers haha 🙂

Anyway, thanks guys for the help and feedback !
