Watch Crashes When Switching to Map Screen During Walk Activity
-
Hi everyone,
I’ve been using a Suunto Vertical Steel Solar since February and overall, I’m really happy with it. However, I’ve experienced crashes twice now when switching to the map screen during a Walking activity.
The first crash happened a few weeks ago, and I assumed it was just a one-off glitch. But it happened again today under similar conditions. In both cases, I was not following a route—just switching between the default screens in the standard Walking activity.
Interestingly, I often go running around the city and have never had any issues. However, both of these crashes happened during walks in the same park. This makes me wonder if the problem could be related to corrupted map data for that specific area.
The activity was saved after the crash, but both the Ascent and Descent values show as 0, which is incorrect.
I sent the logs to Suunto today at 16:06 UTC, as soon as the watch restarted, and am happy to provide any other information that might help troubleshoot this.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? I’m considering turning off the map screen for Walking activities, but there are times I actually need it.

@danct I had this problem years ago with a Garmin Etrex. It was a corrupt map. Happened every time I went past a certain point.
Obviously I have no idea if this affects the Vertical, I have had no issues walking with map, which doesn’t really help I guess!
