I noticed something strange when reviewing the sleep data from the other night: I nap and sleep in parallel!

According to Suunto, I started to nap 22:44 and it lasted untill 23:54. During my nap, I actually also fell into sleep at 23:10. So I both napped and slept between 23:10 and 23:54. In total Suunto says that I got 7:50 hours of sleep. Which if course is wrong. From 22:44 untill 05:51 is 7:07 hours.

First of all, I find it strange that Suunto’s algorithm allows a night’s sleep to start with a nap. It should be smart enough to label the periode from 22:44 to 05:51 as sleep.

Second, even more strange that the algorithm allows for double counting. Napping and sleeping at the same time should be logical impossible also in the digital world and not only in the human world! 🙂

@aeroild I agree that the algorithm should not consider a nap as start of my sleep. Now that my newborn is home, I can fully test all different sorts of sleep related corner cases: I am getting a different bug on the representation of sleep/nap where I get two days. e.g. the 03/06 below:

Is it possible that your bug is something related to the iOS variant of the Suunto App (and mine to the Android version)? Is the total number the same you get on your watch?

I installed the Suunto (beta program) app on my old Android phone and your suspicion is correct. The sleep data is different in the Android app! I can’t say that the data is better, because it just ignores the nap-time. I’m pretty sure that the most correct is that the sleep starts around the time when the nap starts.

Anyways, I hope this means that it is on the way of being fixed in both the Android app and in the iOS app!

Hi there, I am noticing the same since a few days ago. This never happened, in fact the watch rarely tracked naps, but now almost daily. Naps are recorded either right after waking up or right before falling asleep.

After a night sleep I don’t get any resources filled out. I haved according to the watch 8.5 hours of sleep and I lost 1 % of resources during slepp, from what had remain from previous day. OK HRV was very low and I wake a few times, but still, lossing resources during sleep after staying in bead 8 hours?! OK, let’s say, maybe a medical condition, or yes stress, but even so daily I have inconsistent data and updates even in watch or app on Android regarding data of sleep, resources, efort estimation trend.
I have the watch for almost 6 months, and it seems that Suunto it make codind test testing on the behalf and patience of the clients. Why to invest in to a team of code tesingt when the clients it doing so. Ok, I can understand that the data from field is more statistical good and reliable but the data server is on your side Suunto, and the software also on your side
