Starting to really suspect that the ocean is a dead product.

The new Nautic offers much more diving features with customisable displays and multi tank pod support.

@mcardlejon @diogao13 @Jean-Philippe-REY The Ocean is still under active development for sports. I cannot speak to diving functions. You all know that updates will be less frequent with the Ocean. Just wanted to reassure you it is not dead.
The Nautic has no sport functions.

It’s really putting me off Suunto tbh. They have a really competitive product here but it feels like there’s just no support for it?

Honestly think I’ll be looking at Garmin or Sheerwater next time.

Do you know details about the customizable displays ? Regards.

@ogillot sorry not much. My comment was based on the marketing datasheet which lists custom dive views as a feature.

@tinten.addi Sheerwater are great but more expensive and they’re purely dive watches with no sports features. That’s what struck me about the Ocean. The only real competition is Garmin and they’re double the price for the same features.

It’s so frustrating that Suunto have a market leading product here yet it’s dying because the seem to have a habit of releasing a product and then forgetting about it.

                    @S7ewie and all others,
Who has said it is fogotten? It has been said the contrary, just that FW releases are less numerous than other watches : point.

Suunto Spartan Ultra (since 2016) FW: 2.8.24 (retired)
                    Suunto Vertical all black
                    Wife : S9PP
SA: Always the latest beta :)
                    Android 13, Galaxy S205G

@Mff73 To my understanding, the whole justification for the infrequency of FW updates was due to the diving nature of the watch and the fact that any additions and changes to dive related features would require more thorough testing. Which is a justification I’m perfectly happy with.

However, when you wait a year and the FW update comes with next to no dive related changes, only sports additions that already existed on other watches, you start to wonder how much time they’re actually dedicating to their flagship dive watch.

Having seen now that they’ve since released another two “dive computers” which would have taken up a fair chunk of their seemingly already limited software engineering resource, I can’t help but wonder if they’ve already moved on.

I don’t like to be a pessimist but when the Ocean released it really was ahead of the market, but since then it’s kind of stagnated and other brands are fast catching up and taking over.

Added to that the fact that this an official forum and we never get an official response on anything, just adds to my feeling that support is dropping.

Dive computers are not fashion accessories, nor tools designed to improve running efficiency or other lifestyle activities. They are safety-critical devices intended to assist divers in surviving underwater operations.

Imagine a company’s marketing department suggesting, “Let’s convince customers that their parents are using a cardiac monitoring system with outdated firmware, because it still requires further testing, while, at the same time, the company has prepared a new system and simply discontinued the previous one.”

                        Just imagine.
