Review of Race 2 Functionality for Dark Skinned Users
-
Hello, I have wanted to purchase a Suunto for sometime. I recently purchased the Race 2. It is a beautiful watch and I like its general build. However, over two weeks it has only recorded a single nights rest, and on that night it only registered a few hours. The HR sensor regularly loses readings mid-run. I find myself having to lift the watch from my wrist and repositioning it to get the optical sensors to register. It has performed better over the 4 days. However, it still does not record sleep and drops out mid excercise/run.
I generally have to wear the watch almost 2+ inches from the base of my hand to get a reading.
I have shaved the hair on my wrist.
I have tried restarting the watch.
Yes, all the setting are correct and I have adjusted my ideal sleep time.
I have worn the watch very tight so it leaves deep impressions (this normally has best readings), snug but not overly tight (this works but the watch will eventually move during excercise), and loose (hit or miss results).I have experimented on both wrists and the underside of my wrist.
Most reviews that I have read have talked about the vast improvements of the Race 2. I am curious how much testing Suunto did with dark-skinned runners/customers. I also noticed the sensor placement is different than most Garmins and TicWatches. Neither of which I have not had the same problems.
I’m also curious how many dark-skinned, melaninated users are in the Community forum to help provide customer advice for a new Suunto user.
