      HI,
last week I received my new Smart Heart Rate belt from Suunto. For the past eight years or so, I have been using a Garmin heart rate belt, which has been working fine but it has been causing discomfort which is the reason for buying a new one.

The Suunto heart rate belt is significantly more difficult to get connecting to the watch when starting a new training, compared to my old Garmin heart rate belt. I need to poor water on the pads as well as splash water on my chest to get the connection established. With my old heart rate belt, you only needed a tiny amount of water on the pads.

What’s your experience with Suunto heart rate belt? Is it difficult to get the connection established?

furthermore, when comparing the R-R value in Runalyze, it looks like my old heart rate belt is significantly better than the new heart rate belt, especially during the first 10 minutes or so. After the first 10 minutes the Suunto heart rate belt is good (not great), but the beginning is chaos.

I really like the comfort of the Suunto Smart heart rate belt so I would like this to work.

Is this what to expect or is maybe my new heart rate belt faulty and should be sent back to Suunto?

I’ve always struggled with this belt, but I solved the problem once and for all with conductive gel. Since I started using it, I haven’t had any problems and I no longer need to wet it before use. The R-R data here is OK. Also check that the battery level is always above 10/15%, mine starts to disconnect when it’s lower than that.

That said I would love to see a new Suunto Smart HR with a better chest starp (see H10) and, why not, with with running dynamic data now that sw v3 supports it
