One thing that comes to my mind: are you sure that the watch doesn’t fallback to OHR? Since the last update (I’ve a Race 1) it happened several times for me that the HRM disconnected right at the beginning. The first two times I didn’t notice (I run by power and only use ZoneSene but no absolute HR-values) but now I know better and pay close attention to it.
On Wednesday it happened 3 times in a row that it disconnected while changing the intensity-gauge from HR to ZoneSense.
At the end I gave up and just kept it at HR and it didn’t disconnect.

TL;DR maybe take a glimpse under the watch if the green light is off while running.

@MarkusG I made a rollback to the previous Firmware so it’s not a problem of the latest update.

@SyntaxError HRM is connected to Garmin’s app and therefore blocking HRV transmission to Suunto (HR alone is being transmitted).
You must unpair HRM from your phone, remove it from the GC and after that ZoneSense will start working like a charm 😉

@Belial are you sue, that r-r data isn’t transmitted anymore in that case? I used an HRM DUAL with a Garmin Watch via ANT+ and a Suunto via Bluetooth and ZoneSense worked…

That sounds plausible. I’ll test that.

@2b2bff I’m sure of one thing - if HRM is connected to the phone and GC app, it doesn’t broadcast R-R. After searching through the internet I’ve found info, that R-R data in Garmin’s HRM is sent only when one BT connection is present. I haven’t tested BT and ANT+ connection simultaneously, but maybe it’s possible to function side-by-side.
ZoneSense with HRM started working without any issues just after I’ve deleted phone’s BT pairing and is working till now.

I don’t have Garmin Connect on my phone but I have connected the HRM-Pro to two Suunto watches (BT) and both receive R-R data and both display ZoneSense. So two R-R streams are possible.

@Brad_Olwin Suunto Forum. I knew I’d come across this solution about a year ago somewhere in the forum - glad to see I wasn’t imagining it! 🙂
If you’ve managed to connect the HRM to both watches with ZoneSense running, then it seems there’s another one of Apple’s little “features” at play. For some reason, when the HRM is also connected to the iPhone, it quietly blocks the R-R data stream.
I had the same issue as Grundy82 with ZoneSense stuck on “Waiting for data,” and the only thing that helped was un-pairing the strap from my iPhone’s Bluetooth. Worked instantly - go figure! 🍏

It worked now. I deleted the Bluetooth connection from my phone and, just to be safe, reconnected the strap to the watch.
