Vertical with Suunto chest strap
-
Hi all,
I bought a Vertical in July this year coming from Coros where I didn’t like several things. So far so good. I’m a long distance triathlete and want/need decent metrics to plan and do my training. I chose the Vertical because of its battery life and Suunto’s app being able to show and count TSS which is very helpful for me. Also got a Suunto Smart Sensor chest strap. At the beginning all went pretty well.
The first thing occurring was during a 2 hour run. The chest strap did show abnormal high heart rate (180 and above) almost the entire time. Wrist heart rate is always off! Next thing was that the chest strap disconnected itself during cycling, indoor cycling, running and swimming (I know of course that swimming is a different thing). For one outdoor ride I didn’t get any heart rate metrics at all.
Battery is new. Disconnecting and reconnecting the strap from the watch didn’t help.
I also noticed that the watch is either ahead or behind with elapsed training time. When swimming I’m at the pool’s end already and the watch is still counting. Same thing with indoor cycling but the other way around. My trainer for example shows 3 hours 55 minutes and the watch says 4 hours 10 minutes. The longer I ride the bigger the difference gets. Outdoor cycling I don’t know because I don’t have anything to compare to. My cadence sensor/speed sensor connects to the watch if I’m lucky and do pairing/unpairing before I start. Otherwise no data.
I was happy at the beginning with my new set up and everything but now doubts start to arise.
Anyone here who has similar issues and problems? I was about to buy another Suunto watch as a backup but I’m not so sure anymore.
