Reliability issue: routes & maps randomly disappear and more...
-
Hello,
I know this is not the most appropriate group for this topic, but I’m posting here because I haven’t received any answers in the other group. I was wondering if some of you might have experienced similar issues. I also assume that many Race 2 users previously owned a Race 1, so your feedback could be very helpful (and the firmwares are the same).
I’ve been using a Suunto Race for about 1.5 years. For the past few months, especially since the second-to-last update, I’ve noticed heavy battery drain and various activity bugs.
The most annoying issue is that all saved routes sometimes disappear from the watch completely and randomly, without any clear trigger or pattern. What makes this even more confusing is that the routes are still visible in the Suunto app and even marked as saved on the watch, while in reality they are entirely gone from the device. This has already happened several times right before an activity, forcing me to wait for all routes to resync.
I’ve tried everything recommended by Suunto: restart, latest firmware update, and even a full factory reset. Battery life seems slightly better, but the route/navigation bug remains (all routes and POIs are deleted at once, in a totally random way).
I’ve seen that there was already a discussion about this issue, but it didn’t really lead to any conclusion or solution. I’m wondering if this problem actually happens to many users, but goes unnoticed because everything gets reinstalled during regular synchronizations.
However, this becomes really frustrating when you don’t use your phone very often and don’t want (or can’t) sync the watch every day.
This is really problematic when going out without a phone. Everything looks fine during the activity, but when I return, maps and navigation data are suddenly gone, which is quite concerning from a safety and reliability standpoint.
So sometimes when i dont need a really precise map I occasionally still use my old Suunto Ambit3 Sapphire, which I also connect to the app (since two watches can’t be connected at the same time). I’m wondering if this could be part of the issue, I should add that this problem has already occurred even when I hadn’t synced the Ambit for several weeks.
Because of all this, I don’t trust the Suunto Race as much as I trusted my old Ambit.
Has anyone experienced similar behavior?

@rikohock Yes, I had a similar problem but after a few days the routes reappeared. In the mean time they were also absent from the watch (Vertical 2)

So it can happen on any watch it is really a software issue. It happen frequently for you and sinds witch uptade ? For me it was sinds the 2.44.46 .

@rikohock, can’t really tell you exactly.
I wasn’t using my Suunto Watch for a while now and during holidays I wanted to try the Suunto Routeplaner. I connected the web Routeplaner to my Suunto account made two routes. When I used the Suunto App (iOS) to transfer the routes to the watch (Vertical 2) I noticed that I only had these two routes and all previous ones were absent. Refreshing and restarting the app didn’t help. Yesterday when I saw your post I went to check in the App again and there were no routes - even the two made with Routeplaner disappeared. I also checked the watch, there were zero routes on it. Then suddenly all (I presume, didn’t check) routes re-appeared in the Suunto App and the tagged ones (5) also synced to the watch.

@Freezer Wow, this is really messed up. If other people are having the same problem, is it possible to report it to Suunto?

@rikohock I had this problem once or twice, quite a while ago, and a somewhat similar problem – the inability to delete routes from the watch.
But I haven’t noticed anything like that in recent months.
