Suunto Run HR - both native and with Monitor Bluetooth Connectivity
-
I have a Polar 10 chest HR monitor and have used it exclusively for HR. My Suunto Run connects to it very readily before I leave the house for a run. While running it will lose bluetooth (five times in today’s 4 mile run) and the watch’s HR takes over, (i.e., HR band disappears from HR icon), but it cuts in 40 - 50 BPM higher that the monitor’s!
I ran without the Polar 10 the other day and within a half mile my reported HR on a long slow run targeting HR zone 2 quickly soared into zone 5, staying between 170 and 172 BPM, regardless of altitude, hills, or effort.
On an easy run I can take this in stride
and just ignore the spurious data, with the realization that my reported average HR is a little high, but it gets complicated when trying to monitor moderate and high effort runs.I have also experienced dodgy bluetooth with headphones, both Apple AirPods and a Suunto Sonic where notifications get clippy, similar to the referenced post.
I like the Suunto Run in general, and love all of the data it generates, but this is becoming a disappointing issue to have to live with. Are there any viable workarounds for this dodgy bluetooth connectivity?

was going to make a post about a similar issue I have.
brand new Garmin hrm 200. connects to my watch and the heart+belt icon shows before I start an activity (and on hr graph during activity) but it actually just uses the watch sensor and not the belt, even while maintaining connection the whole time - I take watch off and hr goes blank even when hr belt still on and connected. belt works with zwift 0 issues so I know it’s something up with the watch.
I have a sonic too and haven’t had problems with it only other than trying to be connected to multiple devices and the audio from the watch would go choppy - but since no issues.
I think ultimately the Bluetooth connectivity or something with the software on the watch is the culprit of both our issues.
