About battery replacement
-
@New_Jack I don’t know how helpful this is, but there are some internal pictures here https://fccid.io/RYPOW211, but I don’t know where the battery is located…
-
Battery is between main board and display, but looks like you have to remove main board from the front. You’d have to separate the bezel/shroud from mid-case, or remove the crystal. But crystals are normally removed by crystal press from inside. I’m sure you will manage it if you don’t mind destroying the watch in the process. 🧐
How did you remove the middle button? Or did it loose the c-clip and just fall out on it’s own? Also not sure what’s that under the crystal. A delaminated glue indicating someone already removed the front and just put it back together improperly? -
@2b2bff Many thanks m8, those documents are almost what i’m after.
Yes the battery is just between the pcb and the lcd.
Got to separate the plastic middle cover, from the metal front cover, that’s a bit tricky to find how to release them -
@Squirrel Indeed, actually the button is held by a c-clip like on a forerunner watch, that you can spot just from behind.
Thought it would release the middle cover from the front, but it did not.
A piece wants to separate when using a spudger, but somethings holding it, just from the buttons side.
Yep the crystal delaminated the glue is on me, trying to soften the glue introducing some drops of ipa alcohol, expecting the crystal to come up with heat, using a succion tool, but it did not

@New_Jack
On side note, I also own a 9PP and I am surprised Suunto does not propose battery replacement service ?
Is this confirmed and applied for all the watches ? Does it depend on a price threshold ? -
@Pierre-0 Nah the watch been sent to them to DE, then they held it 2 months.
And returned appologizing this is a end of life product.
But a while later, this watch was on their Blackfriday sales.Therefore iam after a solution to open up the watch, and access a battery myself.

@New_Jack
A pity such a watch is considered at its end of life. I will begin to regret the time of classic cell (I am still using a D4i and a Mosquito for diving since 20y thanks to cell self replacement)
A watch like this should be useful enough for the the majority of amateur athletes for at least 15 or 20 years (by the way I think the 9PP form factor is ideal)I hope you will find a way to access to the battery. And if so, please share your tips.
-
@Pierre-0 Yes i have to admit this watch is top quality among other watches i could have in hands.
It’s sad that they don’t allow to replace a battery, as they would like us to buy another one. -
Sad too here they don’t do battery replacements for 9PP.
To me it has the perfect form factor and battery usage through mips and all other models are no replacement for me up to now.Hope you will get it fixed and can share the details with us.
Mine is still fine an lasts about a week with daily activitiy and 24/7 hr monitoring.

@Ecki-D. Today morning I asked Suunto official repair center in Prague, CZ to quote a battery replacement for 9PP. I have received this reply:
**It is not always a defect in the battery, first a diagnosis is performed for 500 CZK/device and then we will inform you. In the case of repair, the diagnosis is not charged.
A replacement would cost 1590 CZK. When delivering to us, it is necessary to specify, for example on a piece of paper, how long the device will last - some specific loss of % of the battery. Address see www.hsh.cz Service time approx. 2.5 weeks
Payment is only after the service, we will send payment details.**
So It should be no problem to get it replaced for up to 70€ + shipping costs.
That is a fair approach imh. -
@Milan-Šádek @ecki-d. good luck with that. My wife owned a 9PP and it’s now an unusable piece of metal (or whatever it is). I have sent the watch 3x for battery check / replacement and it was replaced each time, however it didn’t help at all. The issue started after some SW update and we ended up buying a new watch (Race S).
-
@Milan-Šádek very good to know that. And the price seems ok compared to the watch value.
We will see how long Suunto will provide the service for this model.
