Tracking without GPS coverage
-
I recently stumbled upon the Kristallmarathon. This is a race 500m below the surface in on old mine. So, no GPS coverage whatsoever. I wondered how do you track this? What sports mode and how does the watch know the distance?

I presume it is actually a marathon. Then then the distance will be 42k, 195 meters. I know it, you know it.
But I guess you want it in your stats on suunto and/or strava.
Record it as running on a treadmill. Your watch will show you a distance but that’s probably way off. But after you end the workout it asks you if you want to calibrate the distance. You do, and set it to marathon length.
Most importantly, enjoy your race! Sounds like a special one!

@elbee it is special, indeed. I’m not attending it, yet. I’m just curious.
But they are running loops of 3.3 km. 7 for a Half and 13 for the full, making it more than the usual distances…

Then you calibrate your watch on that distance. And count laps to know your progress.
Or buy a stryd. That’s a rather advanced footpod and is able to track distance by measuring leg swings quite well.
