@jonathan-schwarz the external hr sensor has always higher priority than the internal one, so you don’t need to disable anything, if the external sensor is on and paired the S9 will use that, unless you disabled it in the sport.

@fenr1r I usually want HR. I just don’t usually want WRIST HR. I would absolutely love love love if the S9 watch remembered last saved options for each activity. EVERY time I start an run or bike activity I have to go in, disable wrist HR, connect to my HR belt and then start the activity. It would be a huge time saver / increase ease of use.
Same for Suunto+. I think it would make more sense for most users to just remember the last used option.
For the HR issue - I would argue having bad HR data from the wrist HR is a worse option than having no HR data.You do not need to disable the OHR. If your chest strap or external OHR is connected when you start the activity, the watch will get the HR from the external HR device. The watch uses the OHR when it doesn’t detect a bluetooth HR device. You can see this, when you choose the activity, and you are waiting for GPS and HR you will see that the heart symbol have like a strap not a plain heart, besides there are no lights in the watch OHR.
What the watch can’t do is switch between externa or integrated HR during and activity.

@cosmecosta Oooh!! OMG I can’t believe this haha. Thank you so much. I didn’t know there was a difference in the HR icon between WHR and OHR.
Suunto should have a glossary of all the icons in the app/watch haha. -

Does someone know why? Occasionally it happened to me that during a race the strap sensor failed (bad battery). I would be nice if the OHR can function as backup during the activity.
-
@surfboomerang because it’s difficult and could lead to lots of problems. It would also use more battery.

What if connection is lost only temporary with the strap sensor? It’s a tough decision to make for a watch when to switch.
-
@andrasveres maybe it can display a warning message, like for lost gps connection. And then to give an option to switch to whr.

Something like this.
Same for GNSS settings. I you see that GPS is struggling during and activity it would be wonderful to change GNSS mode without quitting the activity first. -
@дима-мельниченко That’s great, but that would need more options to choice from just to be a whole solution:
- switch to WHR and don’t look further for chest strap
- switch to WHR, but continue look for chest strap
- don’t switch and don’t look further
- don’t switch, but continue look for chest strap
To name a few I can think of right now.
Not to mention GNSS mode switch written by @surfboomerang would be more complex and cumbersome to implement in my opinion.

There are other companies doing this…would be a nice touch honestly.
Connected - WHR off
Lose connection - WHR on -
@stromdiddily
but how would it handle the data in SA in case the chest belt syncs the missing data after the activity? priority to the belt? -
@freeheeler right now there is only one belt that does that, but fair enough point.
Where data is available, data from the belt should be used otherwise pick up from the watch.
-
@andrasveres i think it can be simplified to three options (since only three buttons): hr off, continue looking for hr belt, use whr.
-
It’s possibly already been mentioned but it would be good to see the elevation gain go up a metre/foot at a time. Lag aside it would feel closer to ascending in real time, rather than having it jump up in 3 or 4m increments
Can’t imagine it would be too hard to implement as it already goes up a metre at a time in SuuntoPlus Climb

I’m missing the option to lock the watch in regular daily use (not activity)
-
@hitera
yeah… you’re not alone -
@hitera same for me
-
That would be a neat feature. A lock button!
-
@hitera That’s so basic. Sometimes I get out from the shower and find out that I was running all that time…so I need to shower again
