      Hi,
As I understand currently you could only update watch firmware using SuuntoLink which will require PC with Win/Mac. As I only had Linux laptop and smartphones I wanted to check if it’s possible to live with Suunto watch without borrowing another machine for each update.

      1. Updates via BT - is it something that supposed to be included in future Suunto app updates? SuuntoLink is located at Movescount site - http://www.movescount.com/connect - and I suppose it will be discounted with it too?
      2. Has anyone been able to run SuuntoLink using wine? I’ve tried different .NET version but it’s just failing silently.
      3. Anyone tried to use SuuntoLink installed in Win in Virtualbox? While I could open there access to parent USB ports not sure it will work and will be enough to update FW.

@Afirstam Virtualbox + Guest Additions worked for me in the past. Wine never did.

I flash with boxes on gnome, the USB redirection has a tendency to disconnect during watch cycles of the flash so you have to stay on top of it. Never had issues, but keeping Windows in a VM is a lot of needless code to prop up a tiny app…

Just in case if anyone else will try the same, updating Spartan Trainer watch via Win10 in VirtualBox worked for me fine (with a couple of tweaks), so you will need:

            • Download and setup Win10: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO (don’t need license, free version is enough).
            • Install Guest Additions (virtualbox-guest-additions-iso in Ubuntu) package and setup it via Win10.
            • Install VB extension pack (virtualbox-ext-pack in Ubuntu) to be able to use USB2.0. And enable it in WM settings (either USB2.0 or USB3.0).
            • Install Suuntolink in WM and try to update your watch.
            • Not very obvious part is that during update watch is going to be disconnected several times and changing it’s name (from “Suunto Spartan Trainer” to “Suunto ForssaC” and back) so you will need either manually reconnect these devices in VB each time you will see progress bar in SL gets stuck or white-list them in USB device filters from the beginning.

Sorry to bump such an old topic.
I am diggin an old PC I have at my parents house and it is running windows xp (for old games and software) and linux (mint 21.2 64bit). Since suunto link doesn’t work on windows xp, I am trying to run it through virtual box.
I followed this instructions but It doesn’t detect my watch. I already ran the gues additions iso, and the ext pack is installed also, but not USB is detected. Any hint?
              The configurations is:
              Asus P5Q Pro
              Intel Q6600
              Nvidia Quadro 600
              6 Gb Ram
              256GB SSD

              Thank you

You should first check if you have any device listed in usb settings (VM) and in case force/manually add the watch.

                SSSWHR BARO Amber - 2.8.32

do you see at least a controller listed in usb settings ?
                    is it enabled ?
