I know, I could have done that while fixing my elbow in September… but I’m still old fashioned

You guys have seen the GPS watch out there that’s powered from your “Neo” (Matrix reference) body? So…Not too far fetched. Don’t think it can keep up enough charge for long GPS tracked outings, but still using your body to keep it charged under normal watch use. I forget the name, but I think they just released a V2 version.

I think they are advanced in developing the technology but will they be able to meet the athletes high demands? most likely not. that’s why some bold GPS watch maker should get in a joint venture with Matrix and make it happen.

I like the idea of infinite “energy” in a watch and that was the reason why I bought my Victorinox Airboss Mechanical… but I’ve got SA sync issues with it 😉

@TELE-HO Maybe you can help: I just can’t find the step counter on my Alliance Automatic …

I can say so much: it is not the white square that goes x+1 at midnight

Yeaaaaa. Don’t think I want a company plugging me into the grid to power their watches. 🙂

But yea, i think this tech is coming. Garmin with the solar thing, recouping power expended by the body, etc. and battery tech will eventually jump forward at some point.

I’ve never been interested in a “smart watch” like the Apple Watch or WearOS devices because I loathe keeping stuff charged. Headphones and iPhone are plenty. I barely tolerate my Ambit3. I wear a Suunto essential as my daily and only use my Ambit for outings. Definitely don’t want to have to daily charge my watch. Blah!!!

@chrish Perhaps the Matrix watch is a clever double bluff to disguise the fact that we’re already … hmm: seems it only pairs with some kind of Nokia slide phone. How charmingly retro.

This is hysterical. I had no idea the company was ‘matrix’ and that’s what you guys were referring to. I went straight to the movie thinking about humans as batteries. I had only seen this referred to as PowerWatch sans company name. Too funny.

                      For anyone interested.

a linear dynamo could be the GPS sportswatch solution as the classic mechanical watch with rotational weight and spring energy storage.
no clue if the space consumed would deliver enough electrical power… but during running there’s a lot of motion. during cycling less of course

@TELE-HO Would generating an electrical field that close to your GPS antenna possibly affect accuracy? If so, could one or other be sufficiently shielded/hardened without punitive weight penalty?

it would moreso affect the compass!

@Egika Good point … Although that’s only one of many possible negative factors affecting GPS device compasses. I’m pretty sure mine are offset by heat, fog, nearby sneezing and Weltschmerz.
