@Brad_Olwin Well done. GPX import and all? Did you try for the full loop: route from Suunto app -> ViewRanger app on S7? Just for shiggles?

Yes but not how you have stated it. I imported a gpx into ViewRanger web and that was synchronized to the S7 ViewRanger app.

@Brad_Olwin Thanks. I was wondering if the SA gpx format was happily accepted by VR … but it’s hardly important. Did you take the VR-S7 combo out for a navigational spin? How was the battery with the maps and all? Sufficient?

@Fenr1r I can test that for you if you like.

Conditions? GPX + Screen on ? Something esle?

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Thanks but only if you’re really bored and desperate to measure something. (Assuming you don’t have 2 S7s on wrists, conditions would be identical use, time- & function-wise - as far as there is commonality.)

I suppose it might be useful for Suunto to have a comparative measure showing how much more energy efficient their dedicated environment is … but VR does offer better topo maps and that gpx import.

At the moment: apples and frisbees.

@Fenr1r yes it would need 2 s7 for real comparison.

One thing to mention in general is that if you have one app that uses the full processor active , having a second one or third would only add some extra cost to the consumption as the main processor is already active. Of course if the other app is a CPU best it will add up significantly

I was able to export from SA to VR. I am going on a SkiMo tomorrow and will let you know how bad the battery drain is with VR running. I will run both SA and VR on the S7.

@Brad_Olwin in this video they talk about the “fitness and battery”.

                  Is kind of ”review”

Edit: they speak very well of suunto app. 🙂

@Brad_Olwin Thanks. Have you done the same thing with SA before on its own? If so, while I wouldn’t want you to forgo SA data, wouldn’t VR on its own be a better measure for comparative battery drain? If you’re testing something else, tho’, have at it however. I’m intrigued.

I have been a Suunto 7 owner for two days and I am very disappointed. The Suunto app on both the watch and the phone is stripped of its functions. No sleep tracking, daily activities. The latest update shows that the company does not intend to expand its capabilities. This is a huge step back, and you could add features that are within range of other applications. Unfortunately Sporty Go does not transfer the GPS track to Strava. The new Fossil 5gen has identical functions and costs 60% of the Suunto price.

@Michał-Muszyński for what I’ve read here, they are removing metrics from the app to not confuse users, because they are provided by Fit and not by SA. Surely if and when SA will support those metrics on SA, maybe importing everything from Fit, they’ll reappear.

I have done this route many times with SA alone. I will have a very good comparison and report back late Saturday.

Have you tried other upload options like Peaks or Final Surge? Is there a reason you want to use Sporty Go for runs outdoors as opposed to Suunto’s own app?

@NickK I ride an MTB bike and on the road, my watch is always on the handlebars, it disturbs me while riding. I used STRYD when running.

@Michał-Muszyński I see. Yes, lack of external sensors for heart rate and Stryd is a major bummer. I’m still hoping Suunto does something about it.

Today I did a quick test of two watches - S9 and S7. Calm cycling around the city. GPS quality in S7 same as S9 - SUPER. But heart rate accuracy is poor. In S9 the Wahoo Ticker sensor was connected and in S7 built-in.
I turned on the Sporty Go app connected to Suunto Smart Sensor.

                                  I attach two FIT files.

@NickK I launched both Sporty Go and Suunto simultaneously. The watch measures the heart rate from the wrist in the Suunto app, Sporty Go used a connected Suunto Smart Sensor

Often a problem of the kind of the activity and the position of the arm. While cycling the watch must be very tight to stay behind the wrist.

I did some tests with S7 and Spartan Ultra/Polar H10 and I experienced the best results with the S7. Not worth to go out with the H10. Average of heart rate was the same in all activities (mountain biking, calm ride downtown, race with the carbon bike).

My experience. Enjoy your S7! 😊✌️

I will do bike tests and check. I drive Enduro, I tried to use the built-in sensor on the watch S9 and S5 and the difference was large compared to Wahoo TICKR
