Suunto 7

Would be nice if it works in the same way on iOS
It does, clearing a message on the watch clears it on the iPhone. I have an iPhone and the integration is good considering Apple wants you to have an AW. You can use iCal for calendar events. You will not be able to respond to texts or other more sophisticated 2 way interactions that you might have with Android. There are some apps that will open on the phone from the watch if you wish, MyRadar is one of them. Wear OS allows notifications from several apps, the ones you might want on the iPhone. Using IFTT from the App Store I can get the watch to add calendar notifications to iCal and reminder Notifications to Reminders. Once it is set up it works reasonably well. It is a hassle to see notifications on the watch. If you are using a Google calendar/notifications it might work better.
As for HR zones, you can use the default or as I do adjust your max HR to get the zones as close as possible. I am not that far off on my zones and the one that is off is Zone 1/2, which doesnāt matter much as I do almost all of my training Z1/2. My Zone 3, 4 and 5 on the S7 are very close to what I have set on an S9B. I have many, many, many comparisons of S7/S9B where I wear both on runs or SkiMo. The S7 OHR is good enough for me to use for intervals! and I do not need a belt with the S7 but that is not true for everyone. The S9B OHR simply does not work for me. The S7 altitude and distance are indistinguishable from the S9B. The FusedTrack on the S7 is good enough for me to use in everything but intervals and will give you 12-16h of GPS time! The maps on the S7 are awesome and the S7 is under active development by Suunto so I expect more improvements to the watch. I think a great 2nd watch to have.
I have extensively tested an AW5 and AW6. I love the smartwatch features but found the sports features lacking for me even with the best 3rd party apps. I would keep going back to the S7 and I no longer have the AW. Hope this helps.

@brad_olwin thank you :):)
PS. Did you try WorkOutDoors app on AW? A highly customizable application that turns AW into a very good tool. Intervals, maps, customizable screens, navigation etc

That app is incredible to say its a one-man-band . If I still had an iPhone Iād definitely be using it.
I ran an unaided, often off-road, 120km route in an area Iāve never been before, using it to follow a route etc. - just built in a couple of planned pub stops along the way for recharging the literal and figurative batteries! Didnāt need to refer to phone (other than for taking pictures) a single time to rescue me.
https://www.strava.com/activities/2418628822It was just the lack of āenoughā software usable hardware buttons that was a bit of a let down for me with Apple Watch.
I guess that app is a big reason why the S7 works for me. Broadly similar screen and battery life, functionally quite similar app in terms of usability of maps etc. (although not as configurable, it does allow me to configure the screens exactly as I had them anyway!) - plus 3 actual usable buttons mid-activity for lap, switch screen and pause so no problems fighting the screen in the rain.
I do do a lot of running - >2000km a year and HAVE tried the dedicated sports watches from Garmin (and even Coros), but I personally find the Apple Watch / Suunto 7 as being the pretty much ideal compromise for meā¦sure it would be nice to have MORE battery life, but you can use it to track a marathon without too much concern, that covers 99%+ of most activity, before you even consider the convenience of being a smart watch and all that brings.

Is there any possibility to turn on Payment on S7 for iOS user?
Iam a strava user and does the Fusedtrack gps trace (good gps) looks good in Strava ?
-
@mar-byr i doubt it as S7 uses GPay, where as iOS uses apple pay, however you may be able to use it via another payment service. Sorry canāt remember its name, but I know some one was using it in place of GPay as their bank didnāt include GPay - and seem to have no hassel running it from their watch (this service/card may work especially if also compatiable with iOS).
-
@mar-byr yes. GPay will work.
-
@mar-byr the maps are nowhere near what the S7 is. I used the app extensively and while it is the best app for AW. It falls way short compared to S7. I can provide a list if you like.
-
@mar-byr yes. Let me know if you want examples.

The maps on the Apple Watch using WorkOutdoors have no topo elevation lines. For me this is a critical issue. I contacted the developer and the developer said they would be good to have but not a priority. I doubt it will happen. Second, to have offline maps the areas need to be preselected and downloaded to the iPhone app for WorkOutdoors. There are no HR zones in the app nor any way to get zone notifications. There are no heatmaps when traveling
The maps on the S7 are automatically downloaded when charging and connected to WiFi, including all heat maps. I am traveling this week and heat maps are by far the most useful item! I found the trails that the locals run and will use the heat maps to plan my trail runs. On the S7 I selected a custom offline map area, which was downloaded at home. So, now I have the maps for where I am going on the watch, as soon as I arrive.
There is no comparison between the two, I used/tested an AW extensively with the S7. The AW is the best smartwatch out there but for my sports needs it is too much hassle, so much so that I am not willing to wear the AW during the day and switch when I need to, I would rather not have the smartwatch features (I can use my phone) and have the S7.
There are other issues, uploading to TrainingPeaks, etc. I could go on for quite a bit here but will stop.

@mar-byr Will work from an iPhone. I just saw that Google Pay is undergoing a major change, but it does not seem this will affect the implementation. Make sure Google Pay works in your country.

Specifically if Google Pay on Wear OS will work in your country. Google Pay works here in Norway, but not the Wear OS version for some weird reason.

Does anybody know, why is this restriction? Or if it is possible from Google to expand to other countires? Same in the Czech rep. Google Pay in Wear OS doesnĀ“t work. -
@macdav in theory in the Netherlands Google Pay should work (at least on mobile) with some banks (not mine though), but I cannot even install the app, the Play store says it is not available in my country.
-
@isazi Netherlands is not on the liste of supported countries for Wear OS unfortunately.

@aleksander-h but I do not understand why it does not work even on my phone
Anyway, maybe we need a GPay thread.
-
@isazi Ah, right!
A google pay thread probably makes sense at this point . Anyone know why they differentiate between android and wear os in terms of supported countries? Seems weird to me.

Actually, are you sure you are trying to install the correct app? The new Google Pay app is only available in a few countries. Other countries, such as here in Norway, you have to download the one called āGoogle Pay (old app)ā.
