@mar-byr the maps are nowhere near what the S7 is. I used the app extensively and while it is the best app for AW. It falls way short compared to S7. I can provide a list if you like.
Arent they identical OpenStreetMaps/Mapbox?

@brad_olwin Thx! do I need an android smartphone for that or the configuration can be done via Iphone?

The maps on the Apple Watch using WorkOutdoors have no topo elevation lines. For me this is a critical issue. I contacted the developer and the developer said they would be good to have but not a priority. I doubt it will happen. Second, to have offline maps the areas need to be preselected and downloaded to the iPhone app for WorkOutdoors. There are no HR zones in the app nor any way to get zone notifications. There are no heatmaps when traveling
The maps on the S7 are automatically downloaded when charging and connected to WiFi, including all heat maps. I am traveling this week and heat maps are by far the most useful item! I found the trails that the locals run and will use the heat maps to plan my trail runs. On the S7 I selected a custom offline map area, which was downloaded at home. So, now I have the maps for where I am going on the watch, as soon as I arrive.
There is no comparison between the two, I used/tested an AW extensively with the S7. The AW is the best smartwatch out there but for my sports needs it is too much hassle, so much so that I am not willing to wear the AW during the day and switch when I need to, I would rather not have the smartwatch features (I can use my phone) and have the S7.
There are other issues, uploading to TrainingPeaks, etc. I could go on for quite a bit here but will stop.

@mar-byr Will work from an iPhone. I just saw that Google Pay is undergoing a major change, but it does not seem this will affect the implementation. Make sure Google Pay works in your country.

Google pay works in Poland but the google pay iOS app isn’t available in Poland. App is available only in US

Specifically if Google Pay on Wear OS will work in your country. Google Pay works here in Norway, but not the Wear OS version for some weird reason.

Does anybody know, why is this restriction? Or if it is possible from Google to expand to other countires? Same in the Czech rep. Google Pay in Wear OS doesn´t work. -
@macdav in theory in the Netherlands Google Pay should work (at least on mobile) with some banks (not mine though), but I cannot even install the app, the Play store says it is not available in my country.
-
@isazi Netherlands is not on the liste of supported countries for Wear OS unfortunately.

@aleksander-h but I do not understand why it does not work even on my phone
Anyway, maybe we need a GPay thread.
-
@isazi Ah, right!
A google pay thread probably makes sense at this point . Anyone know why they differentiate between android and wear os in terms of supported countries? Seems weird to me.

Actually, are you sure you are trying to install the correct app? The new Google Pay app is only available in a few countries. Other countries, such as here in Norway, you have to download the one called “Google Pay (old app)”.
-
@aleksander-h Google being Google
-
Its weird, but just because google pay on the phone works, doesn’t mean you can also use it on your watch.
Only officially supported countires for wear os GPay work from watch.Been a lot of discussion around this, with the main thing being it doesn’t seem to be a bank issue based on some of the replies people have received back from their bank - issue seems to be on google side.
Google aren’t saying but from bits that have been pieced together it seems to be a security reason - i suspect probably regulatory/legal concerns preventing it. but who knows maybe it costs money and google don’t think the demand is there. -
-
@bulkan Not sure this makes much difference in real terms.
Suunto already have tiles & the ability to jump into the Suunto workout diary etc.
So - all this change is really going to benefit is potential enhancement for any 3rd party apps?
-
@nigel-taylor-0 it might mean that its now easier to create tiles than before, which might increase the likelihood of us getting more Suunto tiles.
-
@aleksander-h - would agree on that. Would be nice to have a daily tile with sleep tracking, Daily HR- loads of tiles that I can think of.
Plus suunto could now add those via playstore, instead of having to publish via firmware. But would love to see more from google for calendar/ agenda/ reminders.
Think of Garmin eco system - effectively tiles.
-
@jamie-bg The suunto app gets delivered via firmware doesn’t it? I’m guessing its quite well baked into the firmware to prevent people from extracting the apk and installing it on non-Suunto devices. If I’m not mistaken, the tiles themselves follow the app they belong to.
-
@aleksander-h it’s no problem to install e. g. the watch faces on any other WearOS watch.
