I recently got Suunto 3 Fitness and I’ve been impressed by it. It’s been a while since I last tried any heartbeat sensors and they’ve clearly come a long way.

I’m 33 and the default max heartrate was 187. I decided to see how high I could get it so I sprinted for long as I could after 1 hr jog and managed to get 197. I maybe could have squeezed just a bit more but it was awful enough. I remember that I’ve had 198 10 years ago and 195 5 years ago during Cooper-tests. How reliable would you call that result and should I just put that as my max HR?

Also what about the rest heartrate? The watch has 60 but I don’t know if that’s default or measured somehow. Laying down and relaxing I can get ~54 after a while, but the watch shows ~45 for the lowest while sleeping. What value should I use?

@Yucca for your max, given your previous results maybe you are in that ballpark (195-198). For rest heart rate, don’t put your absolute minimum, but what you get sitting without doing anything.

@Yucca Set your max to 197, your RHR to 54 and dial it down to what you get around the time you wake up, roughly. If your lowest during sleep is 45, your true RHR is probably going to be around 47-50. But if you make it too low it might break Body Resources indicator, i.e. it will never go to 100%.

As it stands, RHR setting is only used by Firstbeat algos, so you might as well make it something that makes them happy.
