Purchased a Baro 9 a couple weeks ago. Formerly a Polar and previously a Garmin user.

According to the Baro9 HR i hit 192 today and over the first 15 minutes of my run I was consistently over 165. I should be dead. I’m 73 and no way my HR can reach 192. Polar M430 never spiked in this manner.

I tried at soft reset, a hard reset, and spoke with tech support. Is this watch defective or is the Valencell HR optic reader that crappy. Any suggestions or insights are appreciated.

There’s a lot of information on wrist HR in this forum.
      Basics:
Wear watch not too loose (bouncing around and reading cadence instead of heart) and not too tight (squeeze the arteries too much).
Wear the watch a few cm above the wrist bone up the arm
In cold weather warm up before the excersize to increase circulation in the arms.
Try wrapping a buff above and below the watch (in a figure of 😎 a round your arm to further reduce movement of the watch.
Skin tone and tattoos have an effect as well…

      Cheers

@grant28 and try both arms, personally hr seems to be better on my strong arm (I think I saw that also in an old topic in this forum), perhaps the shape of my strong arm suits better the shape of the watch or there’s more flesh so more blood ??

Try to place the watch well over the wrist. Suunto’s HR readings seem to be very affected by that. I come from a Spartan WHRBaro and we’ve never been friends in relation to optical HR measurement. I remember once that I forgot the chest HR strap and has to rely on optical when I was just doing easy warm up at -supposedly- 192bpm…

Now I have a Polar Vantage V and it reads HR properly with the watch where a watch should be places, not that over the wrist. 24hr HR reading is spot on.

There must be some reason why I have such different experience with these two well-respected brands. The Vantage is smaller and lighter than the Suunto. So I guess that could be a key factor? Who knows…

Give the different placement a shoot and see if that helps!
