My wife was curious how this rise to wake works, so on suunto 5. In settings in backlight section i set standby to ON, rise to wake to ON. But it doesn’t work at all. I tried restart watch but no difference. I even disabled do not disturb, auto do not disturb and sleep traking as i thinked that maybe watch think i sleep already. But no luck. Rise to wake doesn’t work for me. Should i use some specific arm movement? Or just is enough to rise hand and turn wrist to direct watch at me?

@tomas5 this indeed should be enough. Maybe try exaggerating the movement a little?
Also could it be that the backlight is just dim and you don’t notice? Try in dark room?

@дима-мельниченко you are right, it is too low intensity to notice in room where is light 😉 so it works fine. Is it possible somehow lower backlight when button presed to this lower intensity too?

Raise to wake mode test: the lighting comes on very frequently only with the usual arm movements of running …
          Similar experiences?

@dimitrios-kanellopoulos Are there data on the loss of autonomy according to the choices offered?

@rob33 @dimitrios-kanellopoulos same problem…with simple movement on run (e.g. skipping) lights on very frequently(without turn wrist)
kinda bug or just high sensitivity…??
                everything else perfect.

@gerasimos It seems that many people wonder about this function … Lack of explanation?

@rob33 its a very useful and new function, need more time and daily tests from customers to check out …
Just little patience and feedbacks and experts will solve it…(if it’s real problem and not an isolated issue)

I’ll add my two bits of feedback on this feature too - last night, while putting the kids to sleep, the light kept coming on. I’m on S9Baro, backlight off, standby on, raise to wake on. Let’s say that in last night’s scenario I can’t complain - the room was dark, it was 9pm, and it was working as expected.

However, with it being quite reactive/sensitive to hand movement, I am wondering if it wouldn’t make sense (at least for us on S9B without adaptive settings) to take into account the time of day (and probably day of year / location) as a heuristic to determine if backlight is really needed. I don’t need it to react, even at low intensity, at 10am, but I would need it at 7am in winter months here in Europe.

@radu-negoescu use DND. Same applies to s9p.

                          I use DND from 9pm to 7am

Like garmin with “after sunset” mode for backlight?

@radu-negoescu I use automatic Do Not Disturb setting during near sleep time to morning wake up time. So raise to lit the screen do not disturb.

                                  @gerasimos Same stuff here.
Tested on mountain biking (S9P on bike stand) and on Crossfit exercise (this sport mode is by the way missing!) the light keeps turning on when you don’t need it:

                                  • twist/turn/tilt the handle bar = light turns on
                                  • pick up the kettle bell from the floor = light turns on
                                  • raise your wrist to look watch during circuit training = usually no light (noticed that if you do small “shake” on your hand and then raise the light is on).

So i think this needs more tuning.

Or ad option to switch on/off during exercise!? This is not helpful in all sport modes and situations. But i would like to use it for some or just only on watch mode.

i think with a quick double raise to open light or a finest tuning wiil be just perfect and usefull function…🤘 🤘 💪

@gerasimos This would be a terrible idea while exercising in the dark, especially for running. I do not want to have to lift my arm twice to see when an interval is over with.
