S9 change to Ultra mode during run - low battery - No GPS data from then on
-
I recently ran UTMB and I charged the watch up partially twice but eventually at Vallorcince the watch asked to go into Ultra mode because of low battery. I clicked yes. I finished the race in Chamonix. But now when viewing the data on Strava or Suunto app the gps route ends at Vallorcine where I selected Ultra mode. I can see km and split times to Chamonix but no elevation or gps data. Is there any way I can get the gps data for the entire race, or is it lost forever?

Thanks, Brad

@bradweber +1
happend same to me. Few times, when switching between Performace and Endurance mode, at certain point, GPS is not longer recorded, even if Performance mode is turned on again.
Same as you, happened to me on ultra maraton last weekend, but I noticed strange behaviour after 4 km, so I restarted activity with Perfomance mode and charged it in the middle of the race. -
This is bad, I will try to do some testing if there is a way to reproduce this so I can fill in a bug with Suunto. Or if you can reproduce the issue, send the logs and let me know.
-
@bradweber Agree, this is bad, I tested the modes and they worked for me a week ago but did not switch modes. I will test this weekend on some long hike/runs.

@isazi : Is there some way to dump the raw gps data from the watch and not use Suunto App? The last 1km splits (from km143-177) are recorded (time and distance) so possibly some gps must be recorded too. I forgot to turn the watch off at km172. I tried exporting the fit, gpx track, gpx workout and all dont show the gps track from the last 34km or so. Is there some way to postprocess this to show it? Thanks. Maybe somebody that works for Suunto knows this.

@bradweber
here https://forum.suunto.com/post/33052
or
here https://forum.suunto.com/post/86681only with Android phone with SA.
this should be the raw data of the watch sent to SA.
-
@bradweber
would you share the SA fit file of this UTMB (congrats to have finish it, even if the gps track doesn’t show the same ) ? -
Agree that this is not good, but just wanted to say congratulations and express the fact that I am in awe. You must be an absolute beast to get round and finish, huge respect to you !!
-
@mff73 Sure. Here it is. I exported it from the SA. 612c8b67bc1bd54ce512356d.fit
-
@bradweber
do you have any chance to find the raw data stored in your android phone (if you have android ) ?
effectively, at around 160km, fit file doesn’t contain any GPS point, nor altitude. -
@isazi Well, I can provide fit files from the activities where this happend. I am not sure whether that would be of any help. However, if so, I’ll export them.
-
@zadow Suunto is now aware of the issue and testers will test. If you activities are public you can send me the SA links and I’ll forward them to Suunto.

@isazi here is one link from hiking in July.

Afyer 1hour and 15 minutes I switched to Endurance mode and it is clearly visible that nothing is recorded till 04:55 when I switched to Performance mode again. Seems like the watch was paused all that time. For sure they was nit.
-
@zadow just one more, where I noticed the problem for the first time.
https://www.suunto.com/move/zadow/60e1d04631aa903eed9c9e54
First 8 hours are recorded, last hour, when I switched to Endurance is not recorded in GPS, but the time and elevation was recorded correctly.

@mff73 I’m currently using an Iphone. I’ll see if I can get it working on my old Android phone and capture the raw data. Thanks
-
@bradweber
it seems that issue is known now by Suunto, so you could eventually just share your SA UTM activity link, for them to have more data. So try to get yourself watch raw data may not help Suunto more, i think -
@mff73 Here is the SA link :https://www.suunto.com/move/brad370661/612c8b67bc1bd54ce512356d
Let me know if it works. Thanks. You can see from km149-177 there is pace data but no gps-location data.
-
@bradweber Can somebody share this with Suunto? I hope it’s possible to recover the rest of my gps track. Thanks.
-
@bradweber
You can alway ask suunto support … for support -
@bradweber Suunto is now aware of the issue, but they need logs to act, so if anyone can reproduce this and send logs it will be more than appreciated, otherwise fixing it will be a problem.
As for the track in your particular case, I don’t think that was recorded because of this bug. You can try contact support.
