@łukasz-szmigiel said in Give us the Back Button (Double Push/via Accelerometer?):

@mff73 I like to build certain sports modes to have the most important screen next to navigation so I can toggle forward and backward between those two screens and use others only when I’m curious about something else. This is on S5. I wouldn’t be able to use this strategy on S9 as I would have to cycle through all screens.

    i agree, in theory 🙂
And yes, it is about to cycle all screens, but if your sportmode contains x screens, then click x-1 times , and you have the backscreen option 🙂
My spartan can have max 4 screens (how many S9 could have ?) , so my “backscreen procedure” is triple click in these sportsmodes. And triple click is not that longer than double one 🙂
Ok, it is little far-fetched (little more if one add interval screen, so could be 4times click), so i don’t argue that a “unique double click to back screen” could be “good”, but then, how fast should that double click be done, to back screen, and not let user change screen forward “quickly” ? 🙂
just a matter of beeing at suunto’s dev place 😉 How to implement the perfect way, only with 3 buttons ?

@Nikita_Gx In addition to what @mff73 said that in workout mode you can still use only buttons because movement between screens is circular:
You mentioned back button in S7, but it works differently in workout mode in S7. It doesn’t move you back between workout screens, it exits from Suunto WearOS App to the watchface.
So at least in my view the UX is quite consistent between watches.

@mff73 I don’t have an S9 so I haven’t used it in practice - perhaps it’s not that bad but it certainly feels awkward, especially that in certain sport modes it would take 3 and in others 4 clicks (depends on the number of screens). One has to memorize it or be frustrated by cycling too much. And I believe that it’s crucial to be easy as it’s being accessed during the workout.

I honestly don’t see an easy solution to this problem (hold middle for 1s to go back and more than 1s for options?) and wonder if it’s a matter of overengineering or overdesigning by wanting to stay on the simple side in terms of device inputs.

I also wonder why S5 has this button? The left top is clearly needed for extra that is tappable in S9 but back could be omitted.

Btw. how do you access secondary map view in S9 when touch is disabled?

          @łukasz-szmigiel
          What is secondary map view?
In “map” (navigation) view, with bottom button it behaves like swipe from bottom to top. Showing navigation options. Is it that?

@mff73 I mean the secondary action that cycles between current view and zoomed out (ie whole track).

oh, this one. Well, i have no S9, but Spartan, but on my model, no way to do that without touch screen (single tap on the screen) (or i didn’t find this).

@łukasz-szmigiel If you use a custom battery mode, there is an option to enable the touch screen. This allows you to swipe left and right across the data screens. Works great except with sweaty fingers.

Wait, it’s not just the sport mode.

From home screen you go down to HR, Energy, Sleep, etc. There are 7 screens and once you go to the Fitness level there you either have to go 7 steps back or swipe left. As you understand that it’s easier to swipe you do exactly that.
                    That’s the irritating thing.

If you hold middle it will give you shortcuts. I can imagine they can be given somehow otherwise.
If you go up from home screen then hoding middle works fine.

In sports mode I agree you have to scroll only 2-3 screens, it’s not as bad.

effectively, this use case is OK. Left swipe is the only “back to watch face” in watch mode.
                      As i swipe left, i don’t even noticed 🙂
But, waiting 1min and there is auto back to watch face also 😊 😂

For Spartan in every subview, with a longpress you go back to the “main” sub menu, then back to the sub view (like hr) and with a double tap (or swipe left ) to watch face
