Software update 2.18.18 Sept 28 2021

@miniforklift it’s happening on my S9 non-Baro!
It’s almost in loop sync
-
Hiking for more than 3 hours today with an S9 baro, navigation enabled, S+ weather, media controls enabled. No crash. Need to try with waypoints also, as in the past that was one issue.
-
@isazi I am using navigation with waypoints together with S+ usually at least twice a week, different routes. I noticed one crash half a year ago and another one ~ one month ago… I was not using media controls. Therefore, I would say that the probability of the crash was less than ~ 1:20. Good luck trying to replicate that
Anyway - one thing might help. During the first crash (one year ago) the navigation went nuts - although I named my waypoints different names, the watch was showing just the waypoint type instead of the name (like in the older firmwares, but I was already using the firmware that was showing the proper names). Once the watch rebooted, the waypoint names were shown properly. So, if there is something strange with the waypoint names, chances of crash might be higher

Battery drain looks normal on my s9b. Some ‘annoyances’ as stated previously are:
- very apparent lag on my watch when changing watchfaces. Sometimes even takes 2, 3 sec for the outdoor watchface to load (not only when finishing activity but going from HR back).
- another crash in the morning (the watch just showed black screen without reacting to any button - that’s my 4th crash in 6 months)
- zombie notifications not disappearing after 5 days
- on Saturday (after long week at work) hoping to sleep longer the watch decided to buss with ‘training soon do not forget to charge’ at exactly 8:00. I woke up (had it next to my ear apparently) and the sleep shows 8:05. Why is this notification coming when sleeping is active?
-
@dimitrios-kanellopoulos Ok. So how many times do I have to charge the watch to calibrate the battery? 20 times? I’ve charged at least 10 times and it’s still the same. After last night (8 hours) on desk, it’s 4% down again.
-
@pavlas was an issue already acknowledged? I think someone mentioned that next release should resolve this problem.
-
Hi all. And @Pavlas I think I have mentioned that there is an acknowledged issue with the battery during "laying on table " mode.
-
@dimitrios-kanellopoulos okay, I guess I missed it. Sorry and thanks.

You’d think this would be for all S9’s that have updated wouldn’t you? Mine seems to be fine, battery life seems to be as good and as frugal as it always has been

I do not know if what I’m going to say have any sense, but could be that you have “everything” enabled so you can’t notice the battery drain in sleep mode?
In my case, with everything off, and after two battery calibration, the battery drain in sleep mode is still very high, as when I created my post stating it. -
@cosmecosta
good point… I think my watch has the same settings as @cosmecosta 's watch does… if you’re used to longer battery life it might be more noticeable -

The only time I use it is for training, then it’s off the wrist and sits on the table until I need it again
I charged it to full last night, used it for a 60min run this morning. It’s now early afternoon and it’s at 95% which seems consistent with how it’s always been
-
@miniforklift
lucky you… mine goes off the charger in the morning and immediately drops to 99% (which is fine)… then it drops to below 95% before lunch without any activity, just sitting on the wrist -
@freeheeler isn’t that expected ? The s9b is at 20-25% per day with 24/7 on
-
@dimitrios-kanellopoulos
yep, but a bit less with 24/7 off, which is my use case -
@dimitrios-kanellopoulos I don’t know what is is expected, but with the new firmware the battery consumption is much greater comparing to the previous firmware. I also have everything off on the watch, no sleep tracking, no daily HR, no notifications…
-
@nseslija it has been confirmed by Suunto, and will be fixed in next update.
-
@isazi I know, tnx… I downgrade the watch to 2.16.26 till then…
-
@isazi Hi,
Is this valid for S9 Peak? Although the batery calibration solved the sleep tracking high drainage, i found that S9 Peak is draining about 6% - 7% each hour run with gps (gps only or gps+beidou). Before the update was draining about 3%-4%/hour. Actually the GPS in performance mode shows 30h when starting activity with full battery, but it won’t last more than 17h with the actual drainage.Cheers
