@egika yesss 😆. Can’t really run far at the moment, but will give it a try for some indoor workouts this week and if possible run a little

@chrisa Is the functional part of the screen actually bigger than that of the regular 5 or is it the same? The 5 peak indeed seems to have a brighter screen though personally I’m happy enough with that of the regular 5 (which I think is clearer than that of the Spartan Sport). Though I usually don’t train in super bright daylight, so I can imagine others who do would appreciate the brightest screen out there. It seems that Suunto now relies on color screens for their interfaces, but I feel there may still be people out there who’d prefer a monochrome screen for their purposes. I haven’t seen anything clearer than my Ambit 3 Peak.

@vinay Fully agree, Suunto should consider an e-ink display which will boost readability and battery life. Color does not provide much value when the display is hard to read.
My main concerns are still readability and the small screen with a limited amount of pixels. An e-ink display would solve these issues.

@vinay from what I just measured it’s the same size. Here under artificial light side by side (for size comparison of the inner display).

curious to read your opinion. On dcrainmaker review it was one of the bad points.

@andré-faria I read that too, but I can’t really follow. Here’s another pic together with a Garmin Forerunner 245, which is similar in size in daylight and with backlight

For me there’s no huge difference 🧐. The S5 Peaks backlight is dimmer in the dark though when you raise your wrist and perhaps that’s what he refers to? Tried to capture it with the phone

It’s okay and I can read it without glasses (being 52) but it would be nice if you could adjust brightness (e.g. from low - medium - high)

Changing the excellent, but rather heavy band of the S5 Peak for an aftermarket nylon strap (used this with the Polar) drops the S5s weight with band to under 30g making it really hardly noticeable

                        692D4C38-CB3D-4A1D-B7F3-D7730C4FA465.jpeg

And makes it lighter than the Coros Pace 2 (29g) for which Coros states it’s the lightest GPS watch in the market 😀.

@chrisa wow that’s a very low weight, I need that strap 🙂 . I agree with your comments there is no problem reading the watch.

                            Thanks for sharing your feedback.
I saw on the video (and asked to confirm) and the S5p still continues to be slow on some menus.
At the time I had the FR45/245/F6SS and they were all much more imediate than the S9P.
It was already explained here the motive (stability), but on my side, I think it degrades a bit the experience.
But one thing is for sure…the design and confort of S9P and I beliee the S5P is amazing.
If the new algo proves to be reliable for non baro devices, I think it can lead to good sales. Hope so!

@andré-faria one thing at a time I assume. Suunto has already improved the design, next alti algorithm, next structured workouts maybe, who knows if watch UX design is on the way.

And I think they are doing good. The algo was something, that on my vision should be wildly spreaded, because it is countless time we see all over internet comments like “ditch suunto, the algo on s9b is a mess” “ditch suunto, non baro watches don’t measure well altitude”, and now a great work was done and implemented.

@dmytro what is different is that most other brands automatically correct your data when you sync your watch. So in the app you see good data.

@dmytro I think that’s a good idea. After all - it’s the app that we rely on for analytics, not the watch. That would be helpful, ie. for altitude for non-baro devices. That would help in automatic fixing absurd errors with 100+ meters of ascent in first 30 seconds of workout. And some others as well, like fake ascent / descent when GPS signal weakens in parks / urban canyons.
