Display stand-by mode and backlight
-
Hey Suunto community,
I would like to ask all 9 Peak owners what’s the correct behaviour for the display stand-by mode and backlight? I’ve setup I don’t want any brightness in stand-by mode and also turned off the “Wake up with movement” option. According to the user manual the display should go completely dark (not showing anything) after some time, however, this never happens with my model.
The display always shows clock or current workout (event with screen and buttons locked), though without backlight, it never goes completely off. I’m really confused here as the manual clearly states it should go completely dark. This only happens when I take the watch off and put them on the table for example.
I’ve already contacted the support, they told me I should not be concerned BUT if I am I can deliver the watch to a service center to have them checked.
I’m wondering how it is with others? My biggest concern is the battery life. I suppose if the screen never really turns off completely, it might consume the battery charge unnecessarily.
Thanks for you replies!

@vitrozsival what you describe is the normal behavior of the watch. The watch goes completely dark only if it does not detect any movement for few minutes. You can disable the backlight, so the display will not be illuminated, but you cannot turn it off, unless you define a custom battery mode during activity.

@isazi Thank you very much for your quick reply! Just wanted to be sure so I don’t return them to the retailer based on “guesses and hunches”

the “dark” in the manual is most likely referring to the backlight, not the information on the screen.
No worries, Suunto’s sports watches are designed to always show information (watch face in standby). Different than smart watches like the apple watch (or the Suunto 7), this dows not cause additional battery consumption and is the way it is supposed to be.
