Battery Service for my Ambit Vertical
-
New status !! Suunto is now sending me back the watch they didn’t change the battery on and charging me xxxx for analysis and testing. The watch worked perfectly before, I actually only wanted the battery to be replaced, they didn’t manage that. Is Suunto now deciding whether this is economical and ignoring customer wishes? At the time, before shipping, I specified my watch model, the serial number, and I could have been told right away that you cannot or do not want to replace the battery on this watch.
I wanted the battery replaced, no tests and no fault analysis! Now I pay 41€ to get my watch back without a new battery?? Bullshit Suunto!!! -

@olli2709
suunto did not know the condition of your watch and I bet something was wrong with it that suunto decided it is not worth repairing it. bullshit suunto service does do service on watches every day and I trust they have best knowledge about what’s worth and what not.
I recall that you also got a good deal on a refurbished device?
maybe it would have been good to take that deal. a refurbished watch for 150,- € directly from suunto does sound reasonable. -
@olli2709 what do you expect? You send a device to be repaired (out of warranty), they do a quotation (you like it or not) and you do not accept the repair/exchange, do you expect them to send it for free? Tell me a company that does that? They spend time and resources checking your watch.
Don’t get me wrong, I agree that they should have told you why they consider your device is not repairable, I guess there is a reason if they offer you the same device.

@olli2709 , sucks to be in that position, but I’m afraid there’s not much you can do to turn it around.
Assuming you handled it though online service request and chose to accept their terms and conditions in that pop up when you choose your country on https://www.suunto.com/Support/Repair-services/Online-Service-Request/

@olli2709 last time I chat with them before sending my out of guarantee watch, they suggested me to send my watch (battery replacement) to a local official support due to high cost of sending it to Finland. Which sounds completely reasonable.

Everyone mentions a repair?! I ordered a battery change, nothing more.
I trained with the watch until the last day, everything worked. Now I have to buy a refurbished watch, a 5 year old model for 150€ ?? Is that more economical than replacing a battery? Even if the barometer is defective or the GPS no longer works, may be I might only want to use the watch as a watch !!
I would at least like to be able to decide for myself whether and how I use the watch. They are welcome to point out to me that something may be defective, but I decide what is worth repairing to me. Don’t any of you have an old item that you’re hanging on that you don’t necessarily trade economically to get it?
I have sent two emails to customer service asking for the battery to be replaced, both of which have received no response. I have attached a message with the watch + chocolate saying please do not exchange the watch, all ignored.
Welcome China !! -
@olli2709 Isn’t replacing a degraded battery for a new one called a repair?
-
@margusl You are right, it was my mistake i have not read this, before i sent the watch
-
@surfboomerang I would bet Suunto will never change the battery unless it’s under warranty. I think it’s easier and also more lucrative to sell a watch as refurbish and refurbish the old watch.

Welcome China !!
what does this have to do with China?
-
@olli2709 Why wouldn’t Suunto repair it out of warranty if the customer agrees to pay for the repair and shipping?
-
@surfboomerang that is what i mean. I was prepared to pay 70-80€ for it. The battery costs about 5-10€ on ebay and you can see it in the YouTube video. It can be done, but I wasn’t sure about it and I wanted to have it done professionally.
-
@olli2709
I think we’re going in circles here until you know why Suunto assessed your watch for not being worth a repair / battery replacement -

I’m sorry but I bet you did not read their terms of service before sending the watch.
I suggest you to accept their offer for the new watch or DIY
