Problems with Resources and other

Although I am all into helping and sharing feedback, I don’t think the user needs to be reminding all the time a company that something needs fixing. Both valid for Suunto, Garmin, whoever.
You are right, buying such a watch, I want to use it, and not convince the manufacturer to fix what they indicate as a working function.
If Suunto initially consider it unimportant, then there is no need to add it to the watch, and I will be able to decide whether I need a watch without this function or not.

@brad_olwin I think I can say that hardware are broken )
This is a typical picture that I see every day

@alexeg
I understand your frustration if your expectations are not fulfilled.
Please don’t get it wrong when I comment that a sports watch is not a medical device and for the foreseeable future might most likely not be.
Not only because of responsibilities, but also because the values are very depending on the watch setup (that might also change over time) and on the wearing style.your first screenshot looks like the watch couldn’t either detect any resources (how is the HR graph looking during that time?) or as if it was on the charger or at least not on your wrist.
The second screenshot looks like a drop during and after an activity before noon and a bad recovery detection also maybe because of a loose wearing style? -
@freeheeler I’m wearing the watch right ) They are tightened tightly and even the hair on the arm under watch is shaved. I have a lot of experience using sports watches.
On the first graph, the watch showed something (it doesn’t seem to be true), and then after charging it began to show 50%. It always happens this way - charging always resets the graph by 50%.
The second schedule drops to zero after a light workout. This does not always happen, workouts affects him randomly. Everything except Stretching. Starting a workout Stretching even for one second resets Resources to 0%.
Therefore, there is no difference what the rest pulse settings are and how accurate the measurements are, if they are reset every day by 50% or by 0%.
-
@alexeg
yes, after charging it sets to 50%, I understand this as a compromise as the watch does not know what you did meanwhile.
any activity setting to 0% is a bit too much, I agree. I did some cycling before and my resources are at 36% after that.
If you feel that your watch is broken, I would get in touch with support and ask about their opinion. -
@alexeg Please post the HR and Activities for the same time periods. We should be able to help.
Mine for yesterday. I did not wear the watch at night. First drop was exercise with high HR. Second was family emergency, HR not high but bad stress.

The watch automatically reverts to 50% after a charge. For exercise your max and min are not set correctly and that is why resources are dropping. How have you determined max and min?

@brad_olwin, the settings have nothing to do with it. If turning on the Stretching workout for one second resets Resources from 60% (for example) to 0%, then it is obvious that this is a bug, and not the settings incorrectly set.
And it’s the same with charging. Whether the Resources are at least 5%, at least 60% - I connected the wire for a second and the Resources shows 50% -

I guess you should contact support, if you’re already sure about it.

And again, if you put the watch on the charger Resources will change to 50% until a bit of time on your wrist (a few minutes) where Resources will then acquire the value based on measurement and your settings. -
@brad_olwin I have nothing going on for a few minutes. If the Resources have dropped by 0%, then they will be around 0-5% for the rest of the day.
If the Resources are 0% in the evening, then by the morning they never show more than 60%. If I charged my watch before going to bed, it shows 50% and in the morning it shows 90%-92%
I set different HR settings and I managed to achieve similar readings to the truth, but because of the constant resetting of readings, this is of no use
I’ve been using Body Battery in Garmin for over two years and I’ve had no problems. I know how this function should work. It doesn’t work in Suunto.
It’s strange to think that in six months I couldn’t figure out how to use a function that I had previously used for more than two years.
Okay, I’ve already made conclusions for myself. On this forum I found information that other people have problems like me, they have been written about for a long time and they are not being fixed.
I’m really tired of having so many problems with this watch. The surest solution is to just buy Garmin and use what I need and what works.
What’s really cool about Suunto is the app. I will miss him, but I will definitely not miss the watch and it is unlikely that I will ever look towards other models again. So an experience with Polar in 2017 was enough for me to still not be interested in their products.
Thank you all for your answers and information!

@alexeg resources to 0 after stretching/yoga or other easy workouts first thing in the morning it’s a known issue. If you search the forum you’ll find it’s like this on all Suunto watches. Apparently Firstbeat has not helped in fixing this, but it’s known and may be fixed in the future.
-
@isazi that’s what I’m talking about. What difference does it make with the HR settings and how correctly the watch determines stress if the function can’t be used from these resets anyway.
Garmin has the same Firstbeat installed, but neither I nor my wife’s watch have ever had problems in all the years of use. Therefore, I think that this is not a problem in Firstbeat, but in Suunto. They probably think that it is not so important and we can live without it )
-
@alexeg I know as a fact (if you sarch in the forum you’ll also read the story) that is an issue that together Suunto and Firstbeat (that is owned by Garmin) have tried to solve in the past. So far it has not been solved, probably because Suunto is a small company and has to set priorities, but also because they don’t own the IP of the resources, so that they can only modify that together with Firstbeat.
-
@isazi understood, thanks for the information) Then it would be more honest not to add a non-working function to new watch models until it was possible to make it work on the old ones. As I wrote earlier, this is what convinced me to buy Suunto 9 Peak.
Moreover, if the function had been declared as similar but of its Suunto own design, then I would have studied in detail how it works and most likely would have found out about the problem even before buying the watch. But after seeing the information that this is Firstbeat, which I had previously used for a long time and was satisfied with it, I decided to buy the watch.
It 's unpleasant and it makes me think badly about the Suunto company…
-
@isazi Firstbeat being part of Garmin now, do they provide support for their services to ex customers or they just work for Garmin now?
-
All problems are solved )

@alexeg
keep us posted how it performs compared to S9P -
@alexeg i wonder what you would do if watch says you are so stressed during day. Do you go to sleep? What are you doing if watch tells you night was good or night was bad? Do you really change habits? And you could not feel it before? Only because of watch says it to you? Are we stressed because of our watches? I personally use the watch for sport accuracy (ascent, distance) with belt. Garmins SW is often far from finished.

@mountainchris the Body Battery function primarily helps to understand when it is possible to increase the load after an illness. It’s always works. It happens that a week after the illness you feel good, you do a light jog and the watch shows stress at times stronger after it. Then it is clear that you need to rest for another day or two, and then run again easily and compare the result with the previous one.
Here’s an example of what the stress charts looked like during my last illness in October 2021 (it was covid-19):
October 13: woke up and felt fine. A simple hike of 17 km was planned for this day, but there was rain and a fairly strong wind. After looking at the readings of the Body Battery, I decided that I would not go on a hike (the experience of using the watch said that they should be trusted). By lunchtime, the temperature rose and the state of health worsened.
The next day was even more difficult. The graph shows that even at night the stress goes through the roof and the body does not recover. But on the night following it, recovery periods are already appearing (blue color on the chart)
And this is what the data looks like already for October 30, after which I returned to training. Garmin perfectly understands the state of the body and helps to plan the load.
And you can only underestimate this function if you haven’t used it before. And Suunto deceives its users when they claim that their watches can do the same.
