Vertical data a lot off when stormy

I noticed several times, when being in a storm, especially with strong gusts (around 70-100 km/h), the vertical data is severely impacted. One can stand still, and yet the watch can show a vertical speed of +/-2000 m/min. Total vertical meters climbed and descended are affected, too.

I assume, that’s due to the pressure differences that the sensor records during the gusts. Like the pressure differences under and above an airplane wing. I can’t remember my Ambit3 Peak had this issue. But maybe this can be detected and smoothed out via software detection of gusts. I guess, the data spikes will probably look quite unrealistic

@simon The only time this happens to me is when the wind hits the sensor. Because of the placement on the 9 baro. Water in the sensor holes can affect it too. The wind issue does not occur with the 9Peak as the placement is different. It is unlikely due to pressure as FusedAltitude is engaged.

I think that gusts hitting the wrist when on the road bike and wearing the watch on the wrist can also affect alti measurements. I don’t know the background, but isn’t FusedAlti correcting slowly shifting altitude rather that short spikes, caused by gusts and/or hole covering?

but I can’t think of a solution how to detect gusts or covering, could as well be a fast descent

Thanks for your replies! Interesting, this doesn’t seem to be an issue for others. Well, only happens to me in pretty severe storms - and I’m usually wearing the watch on the outside or at least hardly shielded from the gusts. Probably the same like for Brad’s 9 Baro, but maybe less sensitive. Not a big issue - I’m hoping not to get into such storms often :'-D

I have the same experience with S9b. A3P performed better in this regard.
