Suunto 9 Peak software update?
-
I guess S9P, S9B, S9, S5 and S5P here will go quite in parallel having the same UI and seems that same processor as well.
I guess we will have the soonish update all of us. Later, if I recall well, we could receive another update on which seems Suunto is working on.
@isazi , does the S9PP need a firmware update to receive the Strava Live Segments or when the app is published it would be sufficient?

The S9PP has already Strava segments I believe. If not, it does not need a new update. For the other watches we need an update because Strava segments are built on top of S+ guides technology.

lol, it seem you forgot the sad story of Spartan. it was you who asked why spartan has no update as S9?

I am happy with my S9P but it is possible to increase the size of the characters.
For me in the middle of a split session, it’s very difficult to read the screen.Have you tried designing your own sports mode with just 3 data fields (the ones important for you when sight becomes dim ;)). They are bigger then
-
@zhang965 Yeap! You are right! I had a SSU that didn’t received an update that Suunto developed but finally wasn’t released, but I don’t want to lower the hopes of the forum explaining old stories
With the SSU I could complain with updates, because lots of the updates were to add features that were already in the Ambits. With the S9B, we have received quite a lot of useful updates but I will be very happy if we receive some more. I read something of having same icons that in SA in a future update, we will see.
-
@isazi I couldn’t find it in Suunto web page nor in SA.
-
@cosme-costa the current S9PP firmware supports Strava segments already, so no update needed. The other watches need an update. There is a video on Strava segments from @Joaquin posted also in the forum.
-
@isazi yeah! I’ve seen the video, but my question is more in the way that probably is not yet “official” until all the watches have it, could be?
-
@cosme-costa I also believe Suunto will have a more general announcement when all watches support it, but should already work on S9PP.
-
@Stas-Varazhbit What do you need that is not present on the watch?
I have a 9Peak that works well. What I want will require new hardware most likely. -
I still have a Spartan and I’m ok with it
I have “mostly” more then what I had when I did choose to buy it.
Would I like to have more functionalities ? Of course
Do I blame Suunto for the lack of features ? NoMaybe in a year I’ll decide to buy the S9PP or whatever it will be
-
@Brad_Olwin , I’m also happy with my S9P. Though, for me Running power, Increased screen size (and resolution/AMOLED?), Offline music control, Multiple sensor support, Map functionality, Buttonless triathlon transitions are certainly improvement points that need to be implemented rather sooner than later. As you said, some of these would require new hardware.
-
@Brad_Olwin The new watch features and firmware tweaks are mostly about running modes. Yes, if I were running or trail running only, the s9p is the best watch for me. And I see the testers are mostly runners.
But my challenge is a little more complicated - it’s a multisport - triathlon, duathlon, swimrun, aquathlon. Why are there still no duathlon and aquathlon modes with transitions? It’s not hard to add them to the firmware. It is very inconvenient and takes a lot of time when you have to switch between sport modes with more than one touch. Why not let you create your own multisport mode?
And swimming. No ability to add leg exercises, no rest timer or exercise timer.
And this was all in the Ambit series and worked perfectly.
But Suunto design, SA, and excellent battery life outweigh those shortcomings -

Nothing is easy, everything is at least an order of magnitude more difficult than what you expect.
But Suunto is doing research in this field, and some coming S+ apps should show this, probably soon. -
@isazi The question is how will this be implemented in S+? Will it be displayed in SA as separate views with the right parameters and how will it be transferred to TP?
And there hasn’t been a single firmware improvement since March, so I assumed that no further improvements to the old clock are planned and all efforts will be focused on the new s9pp. -

It is being researched in S+ because it is faster to do experiments this way, it doesn’t need software updates. There is already a swimrun S+ app being tested to automatically do transitions. There is a chance that, once this is well understood, the same functionalities will be potentially transferred to the native firmware.

@isazi Apart for hardware limitation (maps, music, screen size…) the only thing i miss is drill exercise during pool swim, i cannot use this watch for my primary sport since i would miss a consistent part of my workout… any news about this?

I have a 9Peak that works well. What I want will require new hardware most likely.Speaking for myself here … I just need the bugs to be fixed . Not interested in any new features per se(they are welcome but won’t change much) since I got it with what was offered . The only complain is of not getting things fixed despite mentioning that it is fixed with the next firmware… it shouldn’t be something requiring to wait for 9months or so
-
@thanasis we only mention that to keep the dialogue moving between users and Suunto, so users can keep track of which bugs are fixed and which not when new firmware comes. Suunto decides everything, they produce the watches.
-
@Stas-Varazhbit I practice multi sports and find those limitations too. If you practice duathlon a Suunto is not ideal. For triathlon their mode and selection for transitions is great but is short in management of the sensors and customisable screens. And the lack of drills in swimming is frustrating. But that’s the reality.
Once said that, the watch works really good and the data is really accurate. And for me I prefer to have instapace accurate rather other options.
For triathlons are others brands more specific but aren’t a Suunto. So is a personal choice.
We keep reporting the feedback but is not in our hands and we can not say what is coming or not, mostly because we don’t know, but I think there is a huge space for multisports improvement.
