Stryd S+ app
-
What can I say is that we started with S+ apps being part of the firmware and only Suunto being able to develop them, to now where they are developed with a VSCode extension available to third-party partners of Suunto. Maybe Suunto will open this to other users at some point, but you know that this requires effort and resources on Suunto’s side, so it may take time.

I dream of the day where there will be a beautiful Neovim extension in Lua. A man can dream

@isazi isn’t one of the metrics redundant? Basically one is the reciprocal of the other.
Dunno, maybe an finds both helpful at the same time and dividing on the fly is inconvenient.
-
@DMytro they are reciprocal yes, thought about showing only one and storing both but put them both in eventually.
-
@isazi interesting.
Just some thought:
The RE is speed/power. So far so good. Just as I understand, power is calculated in the watch using speed as an input variable.
It would work with a native power meter (like built in cycle crankarms), but I doubt it makes much sense when power is just a function of watch metrics… -
@Egika I guess speed isn’t the only variable used to calculate suunto wirst power.
-
@v-sacre of course. But you still get some kind of self referencing data.
-
-
… but it’s not what I expected. It only shows the information of some fields on the screen: of course Power, Leg spring stiffness, Vertical oscillation, Ground contact time, Impact loading rate. What about Air Power and others fields?. No idea. Also, there is no automatic loading of structured workouts or training guides to Suunto App/watch. I think Stryd should treat Suunto users better. Other platforms already have this integration (Intervals, for example). What do you think?
-
-
@MarioPedraza I believe it’s the first stage of the integration.
-
@Wilson75 Scusa la mia domanda, ma c’è bisogno del sensore Stryd per i possessori di SV???
-
@MarioPedraza Which version of Stryd do you have ? I’m not able to use the app. When I select the app it does not find the Stryd.
-
-
@Seb77 apparently you have to disable the footpod before the activity for the Stryd S+ app to work and connect to your Stryd.
-
There is also page at Stryd site now https://blog.stryd.com/2024/02/20/suunto-update-2024/
Also updated initial message to reflect current state

It’s great to finally see the stryd app being released Now I have yet another reason to upgrade from my 5 Peak - I only get to choose 1 app or guide so I can’t use the stryd app while also following a TAO workout or while using the last km or hydration reminder app in a race.
I’m not sure I’ll use the realtime stats but not having to sync the pod afterwards to get the extra stats into stryd and then manually export them to get them into, for instance, runalyse will be really nice!
Now there are some actually useful apps available I hope the limit is lifted further on newer watches to 3 or even 4 at a time!

Used Stryd S+ for the first time today… my feedback:
pros:
-
long awaited/requested S+ app finally arrives!
-
able to see 4 new Stryd metrics on the fly on the watch (ILR,LSS, GCT and VO)
ILR= Impact Loading Rate rotates in top right field with LSS= Leg Spring Stiffness
GCT = Ground Contact Time
VO= Vertical Ocillation -
SA displays 4 Stryd metrics in workout summary (Air power in watts,GCT, VO and LSS), ILR is not display in SA, however it’s recorded in FIT file and its sent over to Stryd.
cons or maybe bugs?
-
in order to connect Stryd via the S+ app you need to disable Stryd for footpod or power meter, otherwise won’t be detected.
-
Watts displayed on regular activity screen other than the S+ app screen itself, comes from the watch wrist-power instead of Stryd, bug or expected behavior?
-
On the Stryd platform we end up with two workouts that are no longer merged by Stryd because one is Suunto’s own wrist power and the other Stryd’s after the offline sync.
-
We just can’t skip the offline sync on Stryd side because not all metrics are recorded by Suunto via the S+ app, we’re missing Form power, Form power ratio and Air power (Stryd uses % as the value for this, Suunto is showing Watts instead ). Not saying this was supposed to be the end of the offline sync , but just providing feedback.
Anyways, that was my experience on first use

@herlas Thanks for the feedback. That possibly puts the brakes on my using the app because my 5 peak doesn’t have wrist-based power. I’m guessing this means power will only show in the app screen and I won’t be able to use power-based targets or the power-based intensity zones. If offline sync is still beneficial then maybe the app isn’t giving enough benefits for me to compromise on the features I’ll miss.

@herlas P3er utilizzare l’app Stryd con SV è necessario avere il misuratore di potenza Stryd?
